Just an online app for background removal, free trial adobe, and Inkscape before bringing it over to Fusion.
I’m horrible with this stuff as I never learned photo editing so I just toy a lot with contrasts until I can highlight “large” shaded areas I can call details.
Gotcha. I use Inkscape to remove backgrounds. But still very much a novice. I had not considered playing around with the contrast get the capture to do what I have it to do. Good Tip. Thanks
She’s an old world tarantula meaning, her species originates from the Eastern Hemisphere which would include Africa, Australia, and Asia.
This specific species is the only known kind in the world to thrive in a communal habitat; all other species live solitary lives and are canibalistic.
Unique thing about this girl is that her species is only found in one part of the world, in the Socotra island which is part of Yemen.
Old world tarantulas differ from New World (which are species found in the Americas), in that they have medically significant venom. OW tarantulas also lack the urticating hairs that NW posses which are used to fend of predators as their hairs have a protein which cause irritation and even temporary blindness (if they get in your eyes). And lastly, OW species have a completely different dimeanor in that they are lightning quick and will bite if provoked. NW species are much more docile and hardly ever bite as they prefer to flee, or kick up their hairs as mentioned.
With that said, even NW species shouldn’t be held.
There’s always the risk of dropping a tarantula (which would cause instant death for many), not to mention no tarantula will ever see its caretaker as “friendly”.
Fascinating. A few months ago Russel Crowe was on Joe Rogan podcast and described a movie scene that required him to have a tarantula crawl into his mouth. Unbelievable, but apparently it happened. And they told him there would be no issues, but then there were. Something about those little hairs on legs getting in skin equals not good.
New world species all have them, and when they feel threatened they will turn around, stick up their abdomen, and use their rear legs to kick their hairs off.
For most, it’ll just cause irritation and discomfort and for others it’ll feel like you just jumped into a bush full of poison ivy without a shirt on.
It goes away though as it isn’t permanent and is meant to allow said tarantula to get away.
