My garden shaman is finally home!
7 months in the making. Every step of the way was a new learning experience: making a low-poly design out of steel (watched a ton of paper craft and cosplay construction videos), making a wire buck and forming steel with an english wheel (watched many custom car body work videos), forming a curved surface with 3D scan data, creating a curved-surface flat cut pattern using Blender’s UV unwrapping and finally pouring an mounting base using Quikrete and anchor bolts. Are there mistakes? Hell yes, would I do things differently? Of course. Will these things bug me when I see him, no way. When I turned him over to my wife for coloring and accessories, he took on a real personality. Whereas I saw him for months in the shop as a muffler with a head. Everyone that’s seen him is blown away. I’m glad my wife challenged me with her request. Every step of the way, I learned a new technique and fabrication skill. Please branch out from your comfort zone, after all, its only steel.
