What have you done on your CrossFire Pro Today?

Awesome!

The chains are a nice touch.

Hey it’s great as is but since you pointed it out, you could move “Bentley” to the center and put “Twp” under it. That would help fill the center gap a little.

You might need to shorten the banner a little though, or add some logos to each end of the banner to fill the dead space.

Always looking to add small details like the chains. I wanted to find hose and cut it and slip it over it but again I was trying to keep it simple. The fire station has nothing so at least this gives it something.

Wow that’s impressive!

Working on a sign for the daughter of a friend who runs a drink stand at local craft fairs. She gave me an image she made in some paint program, and I got as close as I could drawing it from scratch.

Braved the heat/humidity in the garage this afternoon and cut the pieces. 18 gauge and the shiny background which will be black is 24 gauge.

Foreground will be raised an 1". She says she’ll paint it. Yeah! I hate the painting.

Not sure how I am gonna hang it yet…oops.

Being from Indiana, this was a mandatory make. 23" x 12". 18 gauge. I’m going to recoat the black before gluing it together. Pieces are just laying there and a little out of position in this pic.

Man, I want to go back to using 16 gauge which is my favorite so far for signs, but not sure I can justify even though the price has come back down some in my area. I’m having decent results with the 18.

I cut two, and I’m going to make a 3D version in the next day or two.

A guy asked me to make a sign for the entrance to his buddy’s pole barn. He said they call it “Moser Arena” because they watch sports there every Sunday, year round. He said both he and his wife love owls too. So I tried to combine the two passions.

Not too happy with the paint yet. I’m gonna add some more brown to the bird tomorrow. Maybe also some black pupils to the eyes.

The more I looked at that paint, the less I liked it. Better. There’s actually more brown than shows in the pics. I can live with it now.

I finished a few paint jobs and cut a few more signs this afternoon.
18 gauge with 24 gauge back plate.

The Grateful Dead fans love these bears from the 1st album cover. I paint them purple.

Two more Harley signs.

Man, I love the brackets. I’ve seen you do those before and I keep telling myself I need to step up my game and go that route.

I cut out another Indy 500 and a set of bears today and had several areas that didn’t cut though. I got some dremel work to do to save them. That bear set has been my nemesis, bombing on me more than once.

I very rarely get something that don’t cut through, but it does happen with my Hypertherm also. So in firecontrol I just pick the lead in line for that hole or spot and recut it before moving anything on table. You’ll need to go to original start point.

If you could find good deal on one, it might be worth it if doing layered designs. I’m pretty sure you could do my same brackets and use a JB weld or some type of strong glue for most signs. 3M tapewould work for front layers but not brackets for hanging.

Thanks for the advice. In the future, I will definitely try to go back and recut any spots where i don’t get through.

I still need to learn finesse and recovery techniques. I fought my old Dell laptop issues for so long it delayed me learning some of the best methods for recovering from issues like poor cuts and getting the most out of FireControl. My new to me Asus Razer laptop is rock solid so I can now concentrate on best practices like you describe.

3M what? tape?

Yes, 3M tape is good stuff and if doing something small like letters holding them onto a backer should be fine. Here is 5-minute example.

below is example of say sign you want to make. you could use 3M tape to put the letters on it. I will always say the trick is in designs.

This is how i would cut it out and put on backer…

You see this is how i would line up my letters to be baciscally perfect without spending hours lining them up. It’s all in the design. You don’t always need to cut the full shape to line things up.

I would not be afraid to use 3M VHB tape on brackets as long as it was applied correctly. Unless you have a very heavy sign maybe 30Lbs and only two brackets. I have done testing in the past and you would be surprised at what it will hold.

3M VHB tape is extremely strong stuff. It’s used to attach trim to cars. I use it for attaching metal head badges to my bicycle frames. I’ve never had one fall off and they are very difficult to remove.

I went back and read your post again and I have no idea how I missed you were talking about 3M tape.
Sorry about that

How do you line up the hanging bolts/screws on the wall? This sign seems particularly challenging with three spots to hit. I find that adding the screws in a sheetrock wall will often have the screw skewed slightly, especially if an anchor is required in the wall.

One way to do something like that is apply some non staining gel, like Vaseline, to the brackets and touch it to the wall. The holes of course have no gel, so they are “marked” by the lack of gel.
