Weird issue with THC

I have an issue that came up recently with the cut beginning, running through about 25 seconds of cutting, then the torch slowly begins raising off the material. I have a solid ground clamp on the material and new consumables. I have had this begin happening on almost every cut on the same cut design or different ones. When it happens I turn of THC and run those cuts again. It is becoming quite annoying.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

clean the electrical contacts in the THC.

I’m curious of what contacts you’re referring to? Picture?

He’s probably talking about the IHS switch. Lots of people refer to the Z axis as the THC, for some reason.

Dirty contacts in the IHS switch were found to be root cause in both of these threads:

LOL, doesn’t the Z axis ‘control’ the torch height?

I’m aware. I only brought up the question to clarify the wording for newer or confused members that maybe looking for answers.

If you are turning the THC off to stop this issue, then the problem is likely within the THC itself.

First, I would check the voltage you are getting from your plasma cutter to the VIM — around 2V for the divided voltage and around 100V for the raw voltage. If the voltage is too high or too low, that could cause issues.

If the incoming voltage is good, next check to see if you are getting proper voltage output from the VIM. Please email us at support@langmuirsystems.com and ask for Jeff. I will help you diagnose the issue.
