Sketch to SVG. Shaper TRACE

Use your phone camera to take picture of QR code on back of it. That should allow you to register it.

@DonP To get to that point required clicking the blue Register button, then it was able to scan the code (again) mind you because I scanned the code to start the process originally. Phone size is an issue.

The product works now. Shaper rep said they tried many phones in the development stage, not really I guess.

Sorry I have iPhone 13…SE was last phone but upgraded a year ago.

Actually that is one of my Mantras, but, in this case, it was pure luck. When they said they’d be shipping early, I was nervous that they’d ship before I was able to get home. This is like ideal!

Must be something they say in the north country and, well, frankly, shitade doesn’t sound all that great :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
although I do like, ā€œIf you have to shovel sh!t, you might as well find a way to make it fun.ā€

LOL…yep, thinking the same thing.

It pairs nice with a sh!t sandwich :sandwich: Blue collar tradesmans get a taste early on in their careers.

Just got the shipping notification, @DonP …was it a fast donkey? I am hoping it makes it to my house by Friday so a can experiment with it this weekend.

It did arrive 2 days sooner than the expected date.

The saying goes something likeā€¦ā€œLife is a sh!t sandwich, and every day is another biteā€ !

The best way to eat a sh!t sandwich is with a grin on your face.

I 3D printed a version at 50% on my Bambu Lab X1C with AMS. The small frame works great and certainly captures more detail than using the Trace frame with small objects. I put the SVG files into photoshop and found my smaller frame requires reducing the image files exactly to 49% when overlayed to match the standard frame files. I have a 1064nm laser, I may try etching the dots on a blank PLA frame.

Small frame left, more detail - full frame right, less detail:

Next is to make a 200% version …

Brilliant!

My two Trace kits came in today.

Going to have to try this tonight.

The storage case/box is not too bad.

I have brand new extra Trace unit if anyone wants it for $80 which includes shipping. First person to message me in the states can buy it. Just DM me. I can send it Monday or Tuesday. I’ll change the posting from ā€œavailableā€ to ā€œsoldā€ below…

Sorry it’s - Sold

Jim,

I am assuming you have now received your Shaper Trace? I haven’t seen you post your chisel in the projects thread yet… Still working on it?

Seriously wondering if you have had a chance to use it yet?

I was actually going to take a picture of the package yesterday and send it in a message to you. Here I was all worried if they forgot me and I get the package and have yet to open it.

Working on my dump trailer lights. Got them cut out and welded/ground to perfection (my ā€˜perfection’). Today I installed them but the weather keeps interfering. The wiring is so Disney (Mickey Mouse) that the manufacturer of the trailer split into the trailer harness in two locations to clamp on various wires. They have used wire nuts, jam junctions and electrical tape. It was on its way to disaster. It is a mess. Good thing I decided to make it a project.

I do have some 1/2 inch plate that I could cut a chisel out of it. Maybe I will. Dare me!

I have not heard much from anyone on projects that this Shaper Trace device was used except Don. This is a good time to start up the discussion again. I believe it does have some merits and perhaps some shortcomings.

Perhaps I should ask my daughter to put pen to paper and draw a Christmas ornament. She is the one with the artistic talent. I struggle with just drawing a box with parallel sides.

I think you should take one of your photos of the ā€˜boss’, trace that on to a sheet and could make a nifty silhouette that you would cherish for years. Just an idea :slightly_smiling_face:

I sent Don a sketch and he used the shaper so I could see how it worked. He sent me the file and while it was close I still had to change it somewhat in fusion.

My trace was not perfect but I thought it would have been closer.

I don’t remember just how far it was out but I think I taking a picture and inserting in fusion would have got me just about as close.

I would be curious as to what everyone else’s experience is.
