PSA - FireControl on Mac (Installing/Launching errors)

Hey Everyone,

In MacOS Ventura, you may see some misleading error messages while trying to install or run FireControl for the first time.

INSTALLING
When you open the .pkg file from our Downloads Page, you will get this error message:

To resolve this:

  • Go to System Settings.
  • Navigate to Privacy & Security.
  • Under Security, you will see a dialog box that reads “FireControl-x.pkg cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer” - in this popup, select “Open Anyway”.

You will then get another popup:

This time, you can select “Open”, and the normal installer will launch.

LAUNCHING
Now that FireControl is installed, trying to launch it will prompt this very misleading error message:

There is nothing wrong with your FireControl installation! To resolve this:

  • Go to System Settings.
  • Navigate to Privacy & Security.
  • Under Security, you will see a dialog box that reads “FireControl was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer” - once again select “Open Anyway”, and FireControl should launch.
