Pre-concrete pour questions

I will be ready to pour soon and I would like some feedback on my plan.

  1. What do you all think about having the MR-1 live on the pallet that it came with? It seemed like easy way to make it portable when I need to move it with a pallet jack, but I’m not sure if it will cause me any issues later.
  2. I’m not going to install the corner drains and I plan to install a single shower drain as shown in the picture in the front of the machine. I was debating putting it in the back but I think it will be easier to access in the front. My question is front or back?

I wouldn’t use the pallet it came with. Wood will compress and deteriorate over time causing problems with the machine. If you want mobility though, there are a few pictures posted by others where they built a rolling base and at least one with C channel to use a forklift or pallet jack to move the machine.
As for the drain, I would tend to think the front would be better for accessibility, but there’s more room to place it behind the table. I’d say personal preference would be the determining factor. I know, to me, cleaning the rear drains is a huge pain in the rear without removing the windows each time.

Back… Almost all the coolant will be flung backward due to the tool rotation. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the replies @Bigdaddy2166 and @Skipshift. I removed it from the pallet. If I ever need to move it, I’ll figure something else out. Still undecided on the drain…

Could this have anything to do with the direction the nozzles are pointed?

It can definitely influence the direction it pools.
I tend to aim my coolant doward in the left side of the tool’s cutting edge. You’d get a pretty even split on pooling.
If the machine was slightly out of level in one direction that will send coolant in a direction as well. I actually set my table to 0.2 degrees forward lean after a couple of months to influence coolant flow to the front drains since they are quicker to clean and hit with the shop vac when they catch the fine chips in the bottom.

I used the factory drains with 1/2" pvc to connect them all to a single downspout. I installed all the drains across the front. After i got everything level I put 1/2" spacers under the front feet. After the concrete and epoxy i removed the spacers. This caused all the coolant to flow forward and drain through the 4 factory drains. Ive had zero issues with drainage what-so-ever and it also makes swarf very easy to clean out since it all gets brought to the front of the machine.

Here’s an idea I had to make it more mobile without needing a forklift or hand cart:

Still need to work out the best material to replace the rubber feet with but it would also make it easy to slightly tilt the concrete / epoxy pours to grade it towards a drain.
