Post Process Pierce Settings

First post. I’m brand new here and got a CrossFire Pro. I’ve been trying to get started with Fusion and have a CAM question. I did watch the 4 part video series on CAM with Fusion on the Langmuir site but it’s quite old and the screenshots they use don’t line up with the current version of Fusion.

I’m running a Hypertherm 45XP. I’m creating tools in Fusion for each of the materials using the Hypertherm cut charts. So for instance, I’ve created a tool for 16 ga mild steel. From the charts I specified 249 in/min for the feed rate, .060 cut height, .15 pierce height, and .1s pierce time. Here’s a screen shot:

When I go to program a 2D cut with this part in Fusion I select this as the tool. The issue comes when I go to create the post. When I create the post and go to the settings tab and look at the post properties it has pierce delay as 1 second and it is in blue. Here’s a screen shot.

If I hover to the right of this setting an ellipsis menu comes up and I can choose to “Reset to post default.” If I choose this it turns black and shows .5 seconds.

Here’s a screen shot.

My question is, why is why pierce time of .1 seconds from the tool I created not caring over to the post? It’s setting it to 1 second in the post or .5 seconds if I choose to reset to post default. Everything else such as the cut speed I specified for the tool seems to carry over.

Some of the information from the tool does not carry over to the post processor.

Welcome to the forum!

Great start by setting up all your tools for individual metal thickness/type. Sounds like you also have gotten this workflow thing figured out.

As Tin said, that “Post properties” section has the final say so on what will go into the G-Code so make sure you adjust as needed.

@ChelanJim thank you for that concise explanation. I too hope these data points will flow through in the future! Is this a Langmuir issue with development of their post processor or is this being limited by Fusion? I was pretty disappointed to find out this pierce time doesn’t pass through.

Let me answer it this way: Post Processors are generally not the responsibility of Fusion 360.

There are a few Post Processors that are floating around that individuals have written that attempt to correct this. I will see if I can find some of the links. “Use at your own risk”

Here is a good link to start with to understand some of the discussions that has transpired:

There is a link in that above referenced topic that leads to a second, more robust converstation:

In that topic, you will find a post processor that Craig combined two very good attempts to improve the post processor. I have not tried it but others have. (You will need to remove the “.txt”):
FireControl-v1.6.2-forum.cps.txt (22.0 KB)

Thank you. I will look into this when I get some time. Traveling at the moment. Curious why Langmuir hasn’t addressed this as it is obviously something others have had a problem with.
