Plasma choice for Pro Table

I have used the fine cut consumables mostly. I don’t count pierces or anything like I see some people doing. That being said I’m not changing consumables hardly at all and my wife was making tons of Christmas ornaments with tons of pierces each. I do inspect them ever few weeks to make sure I’m not getting too worn. I think i’m getting excellent life from my consumables even if I’m not changing them as frequent as I should, I’d still be happy with their lifespan. The regular consumables cut very well also, better even in many regards, but I’ve used them very limited until this point.
From what I understand with speaking with Hypertherm is the Duramax torch allows my 45 to use any of the XP consumables and basically allows it to function as an XP at the torch end. I spoke with hypertherm at length before buying the Duramax torch and am very happy with the money I spent.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried the PM30 consumables in my 45 and liked the smaller kerf but the lifespan was really short. I think I will try the Duramax machine torch and if I really think I need the XP machine I can just buy one without a torch or with a hand torch.

I’ve never used the 30amp consumables but was told the consumables in general in the duromax will have a longer life.

Just to let anyone know if interested. Weldersupply.com did have a demo hypertherm 65 for $2660 with hand torch and full factory warranty. Red-d-arc.com had 3 hypertherm 85 in their Charlotte,NC store for $2200 as of tuesday. They were off lease machines. They could ship for around extra $130 depending on where your located. They have a 90 warranty on the used machines or you could get a years warranty for an extra 10%. Which would be $220. Just passing this along if anyone were interested in them.

Just another option for you guys: (1495 w/cnc setup)

I ordered ^ over christmas including their machine torch specs align with the 45xp in fact some of the consumables swap over ie if I want a finer cut i can run a powermax 30 tip. The reason I wanted the 45xp was for the fine cut but this seems to be able to match that.

I followed IG on someone with the same setup on their crossfire the cuts look pretty good. Jeff over at HTP has also been very helpful and responsive in answering questions. I own their 221 Invert tig and its been awesome since I bought it 7 years ago. Did some research and people all seem to be happy with their plasma.

Ignore the 300 discount as that was a Christmas promo but even so attached is what my OTD price was with everything. (I also orderd some tig stuff so even less if you subtract that)

Now to be fair since I waiting on the pro to arrive I have not fired up the torch, I only have the machine torch at the moment.

Oh another upside is the air requirements are lower. My compressor is only 6.3cfm@90psi which the 45xp would mean I need to upgrade. The microcut is 3.5cfm@70psi

Looks like a nice unit… but dang it’s close in price to a 45xp… what factors other than the cfm requirements and the cost savings tipped you towards this one.

Mainly that its 100% duty cycle at 45A vs 50% on the 45xp.

Also if you switch to manual cutting it’ll go up to 55A. Though I don’t see myself needing this… nor why its able to do that on manual mode.

Didn’t notice the duty cycle. Nice. My guess would be it goes up to 55 amp on a hand torch because they assume it won’t be doing production work on a cnc tabe with a hand torch. Although seems like they could have just adjusted the duty cycle… nice find

Another place for Hypertherm deals are your local farm and ranch shows, if you’re in a rural area. (Call your county Ag agent to find out when they are.) A few months ago, one of the local dealers was giving an additional 10% off as a show special. So a 45xp was $1640 and a 65 w/CPC was $2440. I missed it, but there’s another show near me at the end of February, so I’m definitely going to check it out. Plus, supporting a local business that I’m going to be buying supplies from and texting their guys at midnight for help.

I’m looking at buying a hypertherm powermax45 xp at my local welding supply shop. I know I want the CPC built in but they also have a model with a serial port. Anyone know what the serial ports purpose is?

Serial port is for older CNC integrations. Modern stuff uses CPC. The CPC and Serial ports do effectively the same thing.

You don’t need the serial port, but it’s not going to hurt having it. It should be super easy to wire the CPC port to the Langmuir controls, not sure about the serial port.

Thanks for the info. I’ll stick with the CPC only model

Anyone considered an everlast machine? I would love a hypertherm but $ is the problem.

Go to the Plasma Cutter Topic and search Everlast. Looks like several things to read.

Has everyone tried or heard anything about the new Everlast Powerplasma 62i with CNC package. Will it just “snap” right in and work?

This is the same unit i am debating on getting to start off with, curious as well as to details on this machine and the changes to the new model.

I ordered this one and it should show up at the end of this week so maybe I’ll be able to post something by next week

Ordered an HTP Microcut 875
https://www.usaweld.com/MicroCut-875SC-Plasma-Cutter-p/microcut875scv2.htm got the machine torch and CNC kit. I dont have the table to use this on yet so I cant tell ya too much. But the specs are good and I’ve been using HTP stuff for almost a decade. It also can use some of the Hypertherm consumables. # things that sold me on this 1. Customer support is krazy good. 2 100% duty cycle at 45 amps 3. if you swap to their smaller torch tips you get what is = to “Fine Cut” from the hyperterm 45x

I just use THE RAZORCUT45 :+1:

From whom did you buy your machine torch?
