New to CrossFire Pro

Hi all,

Just ordered the CrossFire Pro with Torch Mount, Lit Switch and AHTC. A few questions if I may.

  1. Can I use a MacBook Pro?
  2. What are the top tips for installation to avoid any pains?
  3. Anything and everything else I should know preinstall and first cut?

I am reading through Langmuir documentation as well. Thank you!

I am a total noob, but I tried it with a Macbook Air.

The Auto fusion 360 worked fine with it, but I ran into difficulty with the CAM part so I wanted to use Sheetcam.

Well Sheetcam is for Windows machines only. I had heard of people doing "workarounds’ but that sounded very frustrating.

I decided to buy a cheap Windows laptop in order to streamline things for myself.

Got one on Amazon for 250 bucks and that is what I have been using for the last week or so.

I am glad I decided to do that. The learning curve for Fusion-Sheetcam is steep enough already and adding a Mac to the picture was just too much for me.

Edit: I do remember that In order to run the installer for Fusion I had to do something special but I can’t recall what it was. sorry.

Double Edit:

This was what I am referring to in my above post.

One other thing. Some people have problems with the table leaking at the middle seam.

When I got to the “water table” part, I decided to check it for fit and it did seem like there were some decent sized gaps.

So I used a “hammer and dolly” to 'straighten" the mating edges until there was only some very “slight gaps” and then used the supplied sealant.

Knock on wood, no leaks thus far.

If I do develop leak though, I will just TIG it together.

Not a Mac guy, but. I understand that they work. It will be a stick in your spokes down the road.
The plasma cutter will be the difference between working and not.
Let us know what your choice is for it.
Do you have 240v in your shop?
Raszorweld
Everlast 52, 62, and 82i
Hypertherm
Primeweld 60
Are all good choices.
Stay away from the cheap ass Chinese crap.
It must not be a high-frequency plasma cutter.
If there is a question, ask us.
Welcome to the family. Or should I say the jungle?

Lastly, near the end, when you are putting the “bearing plates” on, the instructions have you disassemble the “cross bolts” so you can get the small cap screws for the bearing plates in place, then you reinstall the bolts.

I found it easier/faster to use a magnet and place a cap screw at 90 degrees.

The I fed the magnet/screw assembly past the bolt like so

Then looking from above you can position it properly like so

Then insert the allen wrench in and give it a little “jiggle-jiggle” and it will drop into place.

Awesome thanks. I wanted to make sure just of that as I have not used windows for like decades. I agree to go with the PC route to avoid all the headaches. It is always the drivers!

That’s clever. Thanks yet again. I will revisit these as soon as I get the machine.

PC it is then. Yes have 120/240v both. I order the Razorweld Razorcut to make life easy. Thanks!

I will look keep an eye on this as well. Don’t want a mess. Thanks for sharing the actual pictures.

Any laptop options as I did order a laptop stand?

I’m sure there are some recommendations on the forum. The small screen and the power saver type chip are my turn-off. But there are hundreds of guys running them.

I will do a quick search and also look at technical specs. Thanks!

How much time should I be putting aside to assemble? Any idea?

Any Intel chip with a H or U after the number is a power saver type. Please stay away from them. Many problems on this forum. Also no Ryzen chips either in my opinion. Also, there are lots of issues.

This is the machine I ordered last week. Best I could find for cheap.

It seems to work “good enough” so far, but like I say, it has only been a week.

That is a good one no power saver chip.

I had ~18 hours into mine. 3 six hour days.

I don’t know how to tig, some would say I don’t know how to weld [period]…but, mine started to leak at three weeks. When that happened, I just gooped this product along the seem inside and out and no leaks. That was 2-1/2 years ago.

You have done very well with your entire process with your new table. You have had some challenges but you approached it logically. You are a good example for anyone starting out.
