New MR-1 Gantry Riser Blocks Announcement

We have a new product for MR-1 Gantry Mills!

Unlock even more capability from your MR-1 CNC Mill with the Gantry Riser Block Kit. This upgrade raises the gantry 1.5 inches, providing additional clearance for taller workpieces, larger fixtures, vises, and specialty tooling.

Precision-machined from steel and designed specifically for the MR-1, the kit includes all required mounting hardware for a straightforward installation.

Important: Raising the gantry reduces machine rigidity and changes the system’s vibration characteristics. Users may need to adjust machining parameters accordingly, especially during heavy cutting operations.

Kit Includes:

  • 2 Ă— Gantry Riser Plates

  • 2 Ă— Gantry Coupler Plates

  • Installation Hardware

Add 2.5 inches of clearance and take on bigger setups with confidence. Check out the installation instructions here for step-by-step guidance, and learn more about the MR-1 CNC Mill here.

Got mine on the way. Great option for the machine.
Can’t wait to re-tram the machine:squinting_face_with_tongue:

Read my mind

Wanted to add that with these the total height in the up position would be 10.5 inches z travel?

Great addition, I made some a few months ago and would have happily bought them. Are you sure that is 2.5” of increase though? With the included hardware it seems like it might be 1.5” (and visually it looks more like 1.5”). The flange on the Y carriage is 3/8” tall for reference, and the linear rail is a little under 3/4” tall. This is from your product page:

When I put the risers on my machine I raised the gantry up onto wooden blocks. This allowed me to raise the gantry with only half the weight at a time. I also removed the spindle, saving a lot of weight.

@salemlakesarmory it doesn’t increase Z travel, it just moves your Z farther from the table. Z travel increase would require replacing many more parts and some redesign.

Yes my bad misspoke. Z clearance. Youd have to use the extender to reach down to the baseplate with this

Yes, the Z clearance can be really helpful when working on taller objects.

This setup is what finally prompted me to make and install it. I was modifying a trailer hitch and clearance from the top of the hitch to the bottom of the Z rails was really tight. My machine is modified but has the stock gantry.

Hey Alex, What rotor and vise is that in your pic? Do you have a link as well? Thanks in advance.

That is a Sherline 4th axis and a XianDin H54 vise with a mounting plate that fits onto the rotary table.

My machine is pretty highly modified, the 4th axis won’t work unless you’ve replaced CutControl with a different control system. I have other threads on my machine here if you search around.

Thanks Alex

Alex after some thought I like your setup more and more…so one more question…

Where did you get this black plate here?

Let’s move the chatter about my machine to another thread, so that this one can focus on the block announcement.

You are absolutely correct. Thanks for the notice. That has been fixed on the website and the forum post. Miscommunication when I copy/pasted the website description.

I will definitely be doing this upgrade soon. Couple questions:

Are there any mods or fortifications that can mitigate the rigidity and vibration challenges and reduce/eliminate the need to modify operational parameters?

Also, is there a z-travel-increase mods in the works?

Just received my riser block kit. The two together equal 1.5 inches thick. So, the servo motor in the upper position and the 1.5" spacers should give me 2.5 additional height. I’m just so excited to re-tram this perfectly trammed machine.

Im going to grind mine in and hope for the best. Im optomistically estimating that ill have a 1 percent chance the tram stays the same.

Cutcontrol update coming next? Or do I need to spend hundreds more to upgrade the controller myself?

If you haven’t updated since November 2025, make sure to redownload cutcontrol off our downloads page. It has a few fixes around the Tool Setter movement. Downloads | Langmuir Systems

The last update only fixed bugs introduced in the previous update. And that previous update broke more than it fixed. We haven’t had a real update in like 2 years, despite promises. But you’re cranking out new equipment, and a few accessories for the MR1. Just not bothering with the heart of the machine.

Its like microsoft, they update things and it breaks stuff. 24.1.1 works for me and im not changing it unless theres a major update that adds significant changes and is stable. When your business depends on it you cant have down equipment. I dont even want to get the new riser blocks because my stuffs dialed in and working but the benefits will likely outweigh the risks

Exactly the same for me! I didn’t update earlier because I was waiting to hear what people thought, and there were nothing but complaints and probe crashes. So when the fix came out without any new features, I didn’t bother with it, either.
