New MR-1 Gantry Riser Blocks Announcement

Serious question. Why wouldn’t you just cut yourself a set of risers on your MR-1? Is it just a matter of the time value of money? $99 is pretty cheap so I can understand why you’d want to buy them – ive been using my machine for less than a month and i already want the extra headroom. But i dont have the skills to make them myself… yet.

I don’t own a surface grinder. Using a flycutter or an end mill would be hit-or-miss. Mostly miss when trying to re-tram the machine, not to mention the tool steel would cost at least $40. That’s my reason, but I’m sure there are many other opinions.

I made them myself out of ground aluminum. I had to buy an larger endmill than I’d normally use to handle the 1.5” depth of cut. Otherwise it’s a pretty easy project on the MR-1.

As with anything it’s a choice of time or money. I often buy things that I could make because it’s barelly more money and saves a lot of time.

Hey did you guys end up moving this to another thread? Would also love to know more about how you mounted your XinDian to your Sherline rotary. I really like this setup as well.

No, you are welcome to create it.

I never understood the drama of all this frankly, but I tracked it down…here you go Amazon.com

Bolts right one without other purchases with hardware provided by XinDan and Sherline.

I purchased an unassembled MR-1 to learn more about CNC and get into the hobby.

Since I’m building it, I was thinking of installing these during the build, so I only have to tram the machine once? A bit of a novice here, but if I add 1.5" of spacing, how does the Z axis reach the additional 1.5" lower?

You will want to get the straight shank extender.
