everything is working fine except my machine torch wont fire. ive done dry runs 100% ran thru break in and now im trying to fire the torch for the first time amd nothing. The machine is good I’ve ran a hand torch on it for a while. (literally cutting by hand. not with a crossfire and hand torch.)
Thanks,
Reece
What plasma cutter do you have? I have one of the new Hypertherm units and it is kind of plug and play. I know some of the others you have to go inside the machine and do some wiring to make them work. Anyway, the guys that know how to do that will need to know more details about your machine and what you have did so far.

ya i wired it raw. it’s a cut 60 prime weld. my only question is do i need to hook up the torch firing wires for a machine torch? being that its a machine torch obviously there’s no trigger so i figured i did not need the torch firing wires?
You will need trigger wire or it won’t fire. Does your machine have the CNC port on the back?
yes but from what ive heard that’s bad news with these machines + crossfire combination. really yhe cnc port on the plasma isn’t insulated enough is what i hear.
installing trigger wire now
is there a procedure for wiring for machine torch?
I would wire the trigger wire to the CNC port.
Check this thread out.
thanks, I’m going to try again tomorrow I wired to the cnc port but still nothing. i retested my hand torch and everything is in working order. I’ll go back thru it tomorrow. i appreciate the help.
Pins 1 & 2 on the CNC port should be for firing the torch. It doesn’t matter which wire goes to which pin.
Where did you get the machine torch?
I got it directly from primeweld
Hooked it to pins one and two hit enable in fire control then test fire and nothing.
Might sound like a stupid question, but is the other end of the cable plugged into the electronics enclosure where it says “torch on/off”.
A surprising number of people plug it into the plastic VIM box.
Nope, it’s plugged in properly to the electronics box. Raw voltage hooked to vim box
As long as that is hooked up correctly and your air is on and at the right pressure, the only other option is something is not right with the torch.
You can still fire the hand torch through Firecontrol, correct?
post pics of how you have the cutter wired and connected to the control box. At this point it’s just a guessing game on how everyone interprets ow you have everything connected.
If its hooked up correctly then try this. Make sure you have 100 to 120psi coming to the plasma cutter. turn the plasma on and turn on the air set so air comes out of the torch. Set the air at 65 to 70psi. Turn off air set and try to fire the torch from your computer or laptop. Machine torch’s take more air pressure to fire then a hand torch.
possibility #1 I believe one of my connections had a bad solder. (checking after i get my kids to seep)
Possibility # 2 MY ring connector thar i used for RAW voltage was crimped over the insulation (rookie mistake)
I will update you after i do some more troubleshooting. I’m thinking that one of these two possibilities are the issue
The raw voltage connection won’t have any effect on the torch firing. It could cause Firecontrol to throw an error, when trying to run a program, but the torch will still fire using the torch fire button.
im out here now and its still not firing.
