Machine torch raises

I am using a hypertherm 45xp, crossfire PRO, and post process with Sheetcam. I upload my program in FireControl and the torch goes to start the cut, touches down on the metal but then goes about 1" into the air and fires the arc.

I have the ground directly on the metal, and also tried to connect to the slats. I can not figure out what the issue is.

There is slack in the torch, and everything seems to be plugged in correctly. Disconnected and reconnected.

Running FireControl 21.1.5, updated firmware for THC and machine. Both running 1.3 and 1.1.

Any suggestions?

Can you copy and paste some of the gcode your were running as text here ?

Not sure how to grab the text from in FireControl… here are a few screenshots

open the actual gcode file and copy/past it here.

Here is the first 50. I never get past around 25 because I stop it to save consumables.

I don’t see anything weird in the code

how is your travel on your z axis?
How is the torch mounted?

Is the z axis moving smoothly?

are you using smart voltage?

Z axis raises and lowers manually just fine
Machine torch mounted
Z axis moves smoothly
Using smart voltage

post a pic of the torch mounted. could be it’s too high in the mount and the z axis carriage is prematurely activating the IHS switch before the torch finishes the touch down sequence even though it may look like it did.

i would loosen the 2 torch mount rings and let the torch bottom out on the material. it’ll give you enough room on either end up and down plus it’ll be mounted on the body of the torch instead of the head which is right which that bottom screw on the torch is.

this also assure you that there is enough slack in the z axis carriage.

Adjusted the torch and same issue. Fires too far from material.

Also observe the IHS light in FireControl (bottom middle left ) make sure it is not activating at a incorrect time.

What is the voltage while running before it rises?

IHS light turns on as soon as it touches material then lifts too high and fires, and at one point turns on very quickly while firing.

Voltage looked like it is at 117 before I shut it off pretty quickly to not blow through consumables.

jiggle, rise the torch up and down without firing it and see if that IHS light comes on without touching the material.

Check the IHS circuit from the Z axis all the way back to the Electronic Enclosure.

It does, when going down.

Check the IHS circuit from the Z axis all the way back to the Electronic Enclosure.

Something is screwy with the IHS switch or circuit feeding it.

Lube the IHS switch maybe?

Can’t seem to find any issues along the way. Should I take a look inside the enclosure?

check the ring connector going to the cooper plate in the z axis. is it loose ?

Seems like it is in the z axis if is happened when it was moving.

The IHS light should only trigger when it touches off the material

Not seeing anything out of the usual. I am not familiar with the part you are describing though.
