Happy for you!!! Can’t wait to see what you create and to hear your impressions as you get more familiar with the MINI… especially as you compare it to the POP2 that you’d been using.
So what’s the concern with using the MINI for full-vehicle scans? Is it that the resolution is going to create massive file sizes that are harder to join together? I recall reading that the MINI blue scanner is more sensitive to ambient light, but my project vehicle is in an enclosed garage so I have good control over lighting and can use black drop cloths underneath to help isolate the vehicle from it’s background.
My thought was to use it in Low-res or “Standard”? scan mode at first to keep the scans simpler as I learn. Ultimately there is not much reason for the vehicle scan to be high-resolution… getting basic X,Y,Z dimensioning information is really what I’m after. Later on, it would be nice to do smaller parts in high-resolution for sure.
Hopefully, the MINI proves to be workable. If not, I’m sure someone would be happy to buy it “gently used” for a discount and I can switch to a POP2… or maybe someone will be selling their old POP2 once they get their MINI? Coincedentally, I just got my ship confirmation and tracking information from RevoPoint yesterday.
I think it will be totally possible to do a whole vehicle in pieces and then fusing point clouds together.
The field of view in the mini is smaller than the pop 2 so it’ll take more passes to complete an object. That’s where my head was at but I am a stone cold amateur in the world of 3D scanning.
I followed the new update instructions installed the new Revo scan software, updated the firmware on the mini, then connected the turntable by USB. Absolutely no issues everything went exactly like their instructions said which I followed to the letter.
I ran it for an hour maybe it didn’t seem to get terribly hot.
I took some pictures with my infrared camera.
It got up to about 40 degrees Celsius and maintain that temperature. Ambient temperature in my office was about 20°.
I can understand why people call that hot, it is hot for a consumer device. Still, if it stablilized, then that’s good. Thanks for the update! Now, if I can only get mine
The impression I’m getting is that a lot (maybe all?) of the serious hangups resulted from their respective countries or ISPs blocking access to Chinese servers. Knock on my plastic keyboard, I don’t think we have that problem here in the US or CA. Is that you’re read too?
It sounds like they’ve had a couple duds that were legitimately a manufacturers issue and then it seems like a lot of people have a hard time with installing new software and updating firmware and doing those kind of tasks in the proper order and knowing how to navigate their own file systems was the problem.
Well, there’s your mistake. Apparently you read & followed the instructions. What kind of tech head are you? Now you can’t whine and moan on their forum about the POS that doesn’t work
He does this crap all the time! The fact that he has all the manuals on the planet allows him to gloat and thumb his nose at us. WE can’t read the manuals because he’s got them all!
Of course, we wouldn’t read them anyway, but that really is beside the point!
@Heath have you joined up to the revo forum site yet? @TomWS@TortillaMan and I are over there. @TomWS is really making those guys explain themselves. Lol
We still need a gang name.
I proposed
Langmuir Lurkers.
Also
Infection lnfidels. Was proposed.
(has some religious connotations that on a global forum might be a little out of taste…)
I’ll take a few more kicks of the can as far as posse names go.
Langmuir Skulkers.
“Arc” Angles.
( Again with the religious overtone but I do like the Punny nature of this one.)
Crossfire Cowboys
LS Crew
Any other ideas?
Blindly back each other up on the revo point forum.
