Learning 3D printing

I happened on a piece of software that was created by Autodesk that is no longer supported (last update 2018). They have not announced when it will be removed from the listing but it seems to have some features that are easier to use than TinkerCAD.

Here is a link for the download:

Tinker CAD has added a few features recently that make it more useful. They added a sketch feature a while ago and just added a revolve sketch feature.

Good to know. I plan to “try” to learn TinkerCAD. The thing that caught my attention with Meshmixer was the ability to select things on a surface and the “f” to erase and fill.

That’s pretty wild. I can’t wait to quit my day job. Although most of my day job is me playing on the computer learning.

This thread has been real busy since I last posted, wow.

Ordered an A1 mini seeing as how it was on sale - arrives tomorrow!

Funny how I finally ripped off the band aid after staying away from it for so long. Only finally purchased it because I was going to be spending more than that on some 3D printed parts alone.

Anyone want to start a pool on how long before @Kwikfab orders a H2D to go along with his mini? :winking_face_with_tongue::joy:

Those are the SAME WORDS another member said in a different forum!

No way, NOPE!

Can’t do such a purchase before I buy a new brake! Shoot even after that brake I need to buy a bigger plasma cutter, then a different fab table

That printer you ordered is the quickest route toward ordering an enclosed printer. That is a “gateway” printer if I ever saw one.

Eric is right: 6 months tops!!!

My only concern is with the many other factors thar affect 3D printing.

Of course, I’ll get there when I get there as far as tuning goes.

Printer arrives today, and this filament arrived last night.

Not sure how good it is but we’ll see. I had looked at other brands but kept seeing how they were inconsistently rolled on the spool from the factory among other things.

I use Sunlu PLA+ for most general purpose things. It works great for me. I run it at 230c and 65c bed temp on the textured plate.

I think the A1 mini comes with a smooth one?

I’ll run a benchie with your settings, and I’ll try the suggested settings on the spool itself!

Their website indicates that it comes with the textured PEI plate.

Perfect! I just ordered it on a whim cause a thread popped up in another forum where someone asked “what 3D printer to buy?”

I saw a response stating the A1 Mini was on sale and got it being that it’s too cheap to pass up.

I was going to be spending more than that on some 3D printed items.

Someone posted afterward that he’d calculate a total cost of $70 for all those.

I told him my regular go-to’s would’ve been closer to $200+ lol

She’s here!

It’s a bamboo lab printer.

It just works.

No tuning required.

Filaments however might need some minor tweaking. And I do mean minor.

Bamboo lab filaments are getting cheaper, and right now they’ve got really good deals on them. Their filament profiles for their own stuff is spot on.

A day after I got my A1 mini and ran a few prints, I jumped back onto their website and ordered a P1S.

Had considered a P2S but for what I’ll be doing, I see a bit of value from having an enclosed setup and doing some ABS or PETG sparingly.

And as cheap as it was, made it a no brainer over the regular A1 so now I’ve got two 3D printers lol

Well two once the P1S delivers (tomorrow).

That surprises me!!!:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

My wife is not the most tech savvy person but she just managed to send her first print to the mini today; she freaking loves it

Not sure I mentioned this but she’s a SPED teacher, and 95% of everything I printed was actually for her classroom

Fidget spirals, sensory chain thing, ball bearing loop thing, visual pattern spinners, blank man, and more I’m forgetting

It actually helped calm one child down that required testing and every kid going to her classroom loves it

My RC excavator finally arrived and here’s the pit I printed recently (along with a dump truck)

CNC cutting of metal is amazing but making a 3D model and then making it do a useful, functional task is pretty eye opening amazing, as well.

What a great thing for your wife to have access to such a talented husband with tools!!!
