Learning 3D printing

I saw those and liked them. I can’t remember why I went the other direction. I think it was because I want something that could be affixed solidly to the shelf I made.

The problem with the ones I made is that the plastic tube is not as smooth as the outer rim of those bearings. But, I think they will work fine. (I did sand/filed them somewhat smooth).

Could always make a rectangular flat “bracket” with cutouts to place the TUSH’s into with eyelets to fasten with screws?

something like this for 4 sets (whatever the dimensions are for the holders and however wide apart they need to be)

A soldering iron also works for conjoining parts (or fixing parts that break). Just make sure you have a good adjustable temp one and drop it down to normal extrusion temps. My Y axis motor is on a 3d printed PETG bracket that is under a fair bit of stress from the belt tensioner, and it cracked. Soldering iron melted it back together and it’s been going strong ever since.

My kids were making leprechaun traps so I have 3D printed some bear traps for them. I started off with some small ones and then found a multi-pieceI liked.

When I printed it at 150% scale it had a scary amount to snap to it. So much so that the original frame didn’t stand a chance. I redesigned the frame to take advantage of this strength of printing in different directions. I used keyway slots to fit all the pieces together without glue.

Here’s the redesigned frame parts

My kids almost didn’t want to use it cuz they were afraid it was going to kill or maim the leprechaun.

My brother has a trap line down the lake here. I bet you this would actually work for trapping. I could cut up some Jaws on the plasma cutter for it and roll them.Do you think should I work on this design a little bit more and see if this can actually be used for real? It would probably work for real even with the plastic jaws

By the way my kids were successful they caught the sack that they leprechaun carries around with all of its treasures

I know there’s a hundred of them out there but I think I might like to make a video taking any random file from maker world and reworking it with Fusion. There’s a few steps and tools that make it a lot easier.

My 6-year-old wrote a letter to the leprechaun after the near catch this morning, it says

“dear leprechaun can we come to your place for movies and juice”

Yes. They were right because last year someone was found guilty of injuring a leprechaun and was charged 5,000 Lucky Charms in damages and he now has been court ordered to stay 500 feet away from leprechauns.

That is really fun!

Well, enthusiastically YES!!!

Good morning Crew!

TinWhisperer, That’s a cool trap!

There has been talk about spool holders lately, this is what I did for my Prusa and enclosure. Since the lid hinges up I needed something that would hold the spools in place. This is the only photo I could find. Still putting things together in the photo.

Here is a cropped view of the holders.

@TinWhisperer - Make the springs out of PetG, and try different thickness for more or less spring.

The sign up for bambu’s new flagship printer just came out. I am very excited.

I guess the reveal is March 25th.

Something else for the competitors to copy.

Looks like it will be a dual extruder. I see extruder left and extruder right text.

I signed up!!! Thanks for the heads up.

So we might be getting a laser cutter or a vinyl cutter or both with this machine?

larger work area and dual extrusion are what will sell me. All the other stuff is actually a negative for me. I’m a firm believer in having the best machine for the specific task, not mediocre at multiple things. Sadly that happens more than not when it comes to both man and machine.

Me too. I avoid using supports and/or support interface material. I just suffer the consequences. With dual heads I would do both more often. You can’t always print for strength without supports.

I started watching these videos yesterday. All are guessing from a single photo.

That last video used some good deductive reasoning with the invoice about supplies for laser and vinyl cutter.

Well, they are late to the game on the multi extrusion. The upside for them if history continues, is that it will work, just work right out of the box.

I was really hoping for either a CMYK or RGB printer. Someone is going to figure that one out, and it will be HUGE.

Laser and or Vinyl…meh. Gotta go with @OldNBroken on that. Better to lead the market with one thing rather than multitask and leave the customer feeling like “I paid how much money for this? Should have bought individual items and lived with a crowded craft area.”

Besides the girlfriend just bought a Cricut, so Vinyl cutting is handled by a thing designed for Vinyl cutting.

A Blue or Red laser would be niceish for marking wood, and may be my next hit…maybe.

I have to agree with the vid that @TinWhisperer posted that the debris the laser generates is pretty bad and will make a mess. Hopefully the exhaust fan coupled with the cooling fan will act like a vacuum and eject 95% of it. Of course most people are going to vent that right into their living environment. Gonna be a few fires and burned up printers too. Hopefully they have good sensors for that kind of thing. A lot of extra crap inside close to the laser work area not typically found in dedicated laser machines.

I don’t do multi color prints all that often. Pre loaded with support would be handy. Even the .4mm or a .2mm nozzle on one, then a .8 mm on the other for the whole detail, and rapid infill…stronger maybe?

Cost in the US will be another matter. Those before the early July or late August hit will benefit, then probably going to see anther 25% or more in the cost…if they don’t start preloading the early sales with the markup to offset the loss in sales. Example - $2500 as an original MSRP then turns into $3125…Ummmm, hard pass on that one for me.

This video that Tin posted makes me think that a CMYK or RGB printer could really disappoint users. It would be really difficult to get a pure homogenous color with several filaments mixing together.

But I guess they are doing it…but not in a price range that I would like:

Two or three years ago at one of the maker conventions, there was somebody that had developed a CMYK printer. This just was your average at home hobbyist tinkerer that did it.

Now whether or not the technology was sold to one of the above companies. That’s possibility.

some of the details of this dual head extruder are pretty cool. One thing I noticed was these wipers slash nozzle plug arms. Pretty good idea to stop the one nozzle from weeping while you’re printing with the other and or it may be to wipe the nozzle clean before engaging.

I have a feeling that the laser cutter and the vinyl cutter speculation is from planted information so people would get that idea on purpose.

Also utilizing the A1 hot swap nozzles which will be way more convenient than the current X1 carbon in P1P nozzles

I think this might just be a 3D printer which is all I want it to be.

I had decided that IF the laser and vinyl cutter were optional, I would choose NOT to get them

Easier change of nozzles would be very nice.

Your bot eyes see that wiper better than I can!
