Learning 3D printing

@Knick I’m glad you checked in here… I was thinking how proud of me you would be when I made it past the $35 shipping charge! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

New filament day. I’m loving the Bambu membership club or whatever it’s called.

So you really like that PLA-CF….Does it hide layer lines as described?

Filament day here too!

More rolls coming Tuesday!

Yes definitely

It does hide layer lines, but layer adhesion is not as good as regular PLA. Apparently the fibers don’t melt into the layer below and block the layer from bonding to it in the spots where there are fibers.

Lots of Youtubers have tested this and found it to be true and some manufacturers list it in their filament properties charts.

Well that’s an interesting tidbit. I’m using PLA-CF for customer prints, primarily for surface finish and a little perception for quality. I also print more perimeters and 0.12 layer heights.

Just something to be aware of in parts that need strong layer adhesion. CF filaments definitely look nicer, but the CF doesn’t add the strength that people think it does.

I just looked at the Bambu TDS sheets for PLA basic, PLA matte and PLA CF. Out of the three, PLA basic had the strongest layer adhesion and PLA matte had the weakest.

I got some of this a month ago but still haven’t put it on anything and painted it.

Hey guys little help here. I want to order my first 3D printer and not sure what one to get. I’m going bambu labs but what is a good model I should go with? I was looking at the p1s combo or the X1 carbon combo. Im brand new to printing so want something user friendly what do you veterans think is a good choice

If you have the budget for the X1C then buy it. I recently ordered the P1S combo, it gets here tomorrow! I am super excited!! I started off looking at the A1 mini around Christmas time… When I started out negotiating with the BOSS, I was thinking I might be able to talk her into a new A1… So, I started out by asking for the X1C… you know ask high settle low… to my surprise I didn’t get as much resistance as I thought I would get. Buying the P1S gave me a little more budget for extras and filament on my order. I am a total newbie… but in my opinion either printer is a great choice!

Here is what I have in my cart. If one of you folks would take a peek and let me know if there is anything else I would need.

I also decided on the P1S combo so I could get a bunch of other stuff with it.

I’m going to add @DonP, @Sticks and @TinWhisperer to the conversation as I really don’t know. I think the P1S comes with a .04 hotend installed and an extra. It also comes with a textured build plate.

I ordered 12 rolls of filament and it was still applying the discount. I guess I would take advantage of that as it’s a one time add on discount.

I also ordered an extra build plate.

Erik, yes the P1S comes with a stainless steel 0.04 hot end. The X1C comes with a hardened steel 0.04 hot end (which is available to add to the P1S or P1P.

If you are going to add a hardened nozzle for CF filament, you should also change to hardened extruder gears.

^^^^^This^^^^^^

Also, you can loose the scrapersx2, the wipers, Glue x 2 (go to Walmart and get some hair spray, and a glue stick from the school supplies), LED lights. Get the hardened steel hot ends, and make sure that you upgrade the P1s to the hardened gears as suggested above.

Add a Textured PEI build plate, and pick up a PEO and/or a PET build plate aftermarket (after you get to know the printer and can deal with the argument about a missing localization marker)

I am partial to the X1 so that is the route that I would take.

These BL printers are truly a fire and forget printer. You will spend more time leaning how to use the slicers to make the models print.

YouTube University is your friend. Teaching Tech, Makers Muse are two really good profs.
