Learning 3D printing

If you were going to print it all on the same color, you can do the paint on support. We did that with Tin way earlier when he was making the skateboard mounts.

If you’re willing to go two different colors, then I would do the method as kind of described in that video above. Makes it all flush but your letters will be a different color than the body. Should still be watertight since you’re only going in maybe two walls worth, then you’re internal wall will be solid and same color.

I saw that. I have a couple other ideas I might try first. I would be interested in yours or others opinion of whether you think these letters stand a better chance. “LACTAID” in recessed and “TYLENOL” is raised. All of the edges are chamfered all the way around.

I never heard of a “modifier” until sticks said it yesterday. Had to check this out last night myself to fully understand. Cool tip

@ChelanJim …Let do quick chat about fusion to bambu workflow. You’ll be printing off all your medication containers in no time. jk

JUST FYI…Scrap isn’t a bad thing if you learn from it.

Sticks, I really like how that YouTuber presents issues. Here is another one with flush text that seems interesting for this topic.

You’d be surprised at what kind of overhang will print without support. Every one of these printed without support. Like Don said, failures are still learning. Print it and see what happens.

That inspires me. Thanks David! The fact is, I am not going for “pretty” just yet. Lots of learning and exploring ahead. But, I really appreciate all the input from everyone.

Shipment of printer scheduled for this afternoon. Hopefully they (UPS) don’t change it a third time.

That would have been quite the support tree (forest) for all of those nubs!

here’s a tip to avoid support inside a hole with a top. Add a chamfer to the inside creating an internal cone which can easily be printed because overhang at 45deg.

I came across this slick video to create a knurled pattern. Might have to try this on something…perhaps my pill bottle!

I could see using that knurled pattern on TPU for all kinds of things you want to add some grip. Cool video!

Heat set inserts work great! I made these for my daughters new zr200

I really want to get my kids one of those!

If you ever want to come ride out west I can be your guide. I’ve taken guys from San Diego to Ohio… haven’t lost one yet!

If you follow CBoysTV Youtube channel… I think they are from Michigan… anyway they have been up here this week with heavy d. Sparks. I was on ski patrol Tuesday and they were buzzing me with heavy Ds Blackhawk helicopter when I was on sweep after the lifts had closed. Fun to watch them. They have quite the crew of YouTubers up here this week.

Here are some pics of where we ride. The ugly guy in the white helmet is yours truly. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Mrs 72 pony on the back on one of them.

Looks like fun! You can keep it though I would rather have a 4 wheeler in the mud… the older I get the more I dislike the white stuff. We have a rule here that’s a ugly word.

Bring your wheeler!

Geez man I miss my bike too! I would love to take a trip like that. Do you have park passes there to ride. I live in the east coast version of CA sorry guys. No national forest riding and the largest land owners around here are coal companies they put a stop to all that riding. What legal trail we have the fees and regulations are way overboard

Utah is 75% public land. Throw a rock and it’s likely to land in public land.

I think it’s #3 for most public land behind Alaska and Nevada

You are actually 2nd only to Nevada percent-wise. We are third right behind you and THEN it is Alaska in 4th. That’s federal land.

Here’s how to change the filament print order in Bambu Studio, useful for multi-color prints.

This is slice #1 for an enclosure with white labeling. You want to print the base color first then the lettering.

To change the order, click on the gear icon next to the build plate.

I’ve printed a lot of stuff with lettering raised on the sides of cylinders. You just can’t raise it too much. I believe I’ve done .040 or so without problems. Just do it, and see what it does rather than overthinking it. You’ll learn what you can and can’t do. And I’m just using a 5 year old cheapest I could find Chinese 3D printer that I got as a thing for my and my son.

@DRotblatt @ChelanJim - That is the key, either the chamfer that you did, or as DR said, .2 to .4mm. My brain saw a large cylinder and proportioned the letters accordingly, even though you put the size down as a little bigger than a AA Battery, by brain said pop can.

Hopefully you got yours in and are going away at it!

Now I am learning how to tame ABS. This is for a spooler/switcher. One time the print failed when it warped away from the plate early on in an 8 hour print. Last night was a 12 hour print at 0.16 Optimal with ABS. I added 8mm brim inside and out. This morning I am “brimming” with relief: kept checking it all thru the night as if I were expecting a new baby calf!
