🗡 Knife Design/ Making Knives

I’ve had it going on +18 years now; went with me on a few tours.

Favorite feature is that it’s an automatic knife, and the safety switch makes it a fixed blade when deployed. However, when it’s in the folded position the switch acts like a safety.

You had me all fired up about this. I was going to put this on my Christmas list and this happened:

Treat yourself to a custom Fastball

I substitute it as my EDC on days where I want to carry something more discreet

I know you are just saying that to make me feel better. And it helps…a little.

I love seeing cool knives, and many of the designs here look pretty badass.

But believe it or not that Fastball was a purchase just some 2+ years ago and I only started carrying it this year. Like watches, I’ll own one and run it until it gives up the ghost. You won’t find me owning more than the two I’ve got for a very long time.

But Gerber has some pretty cool ‘custom options’ for some of their models.

Do you live in a freedom restricted state?

@Kwikfab ive been looking at a microtech lately….

Never heard of Microtech…going to have to browse the site thoroughly tomorrow.

Yeah, I’m in CA although ownership is retained having acquired items through legal methods.

I’m former LEO and former MIL.

Regardless of my status, daggers are a no-go here as well as a variety of other weapons.

They know how to make you feel like something is exclusive, but actually you can buy that knife from a number of places without being a service member unless your locale has restrictions on autos. Heck, you can even choose from a number of blade shapes.

Yeah I was asking @ChelanJim although maybe gerber only sells those to service personnel?

Microtech makes several different knives but is known for the Ultratech OTF. It’s a pretty sick design and feels amazing.

Kershaw Livewire is another OTF auto that is pretty nice, and about 30% less than the Ultratech. Worth taking a look at it if you can check it out in person.

Yeah I’ve been looking at those too. But there’s a Microtech that comes in distressed OD green and it looks like master chiefs armor. I feel like I need that. lol.

Washington state tends to make more limitations than most.
If you are talking gun rights:

But now if you are talking Cannabis:

Yes, that was the notation that I highlighted:

Yeah I thought maybe it was service personnel only in your specific state or something.

Look into a trust in another state.

spear knife.

Convert to spear mode with a broom handle

maybe have the standard broom thread in the handle ?

I can kinda visualize that:

That is one of the most unique fixed blade knives I’ve ever seen that doesn’t get there by just weird design choices. If you want something custom that you won’t find anywhere else, that’s got to go to the top of the list. I bet it needs some more refinement, but I think it’d pay off in something that would turn heads and make people envious of it while still being useful.

Some ideas:

Small notches in the lower part of the handle that engages with the handle to give you a place to tie the spear knife on with paracord, gut, sinew, bark strips, or whatever you have when you get stranded in the wilderness and need to hunt caribou.

Only fully sharpen the front half of the top of the knife so if your thumb or hand slips you’ll be less likely to have major blood loss.

The lower handle scale sections don’t need to be spaced with metal, they could be spaced with handle material or anything else if you want, but either way a second small pin on both halves of the handle sections so they’re more supported might not hurt.

I want to iterate on this design some more.

I appreciate the critique and ideas.

version 2 tomorrow.

I’m excited to print and test one of these.
