It's been awhile. Post those projects!

Jim, send me that jpeg, and I will do it.

LOL! Sounds like my woodworking bench! Fortunately, most times I keep a cutting mat on it. But, you’re right, when it’s set up for jigging, parts fall through all the time!

Does she put on a red light?

once you go inductive, you never go back.

Or at least optical

I have had the Merkel units on my MR 1 for two years without a failed homing movement. Yes, we think alike. I watched that YouTube video the night before. Old Eddie Murphy is hysterical. And no, she has no red light to turn on. I think.

I’m not a woodworker by any means.

With that said, wood top finally arrived along with some t-nuts so I got to work.

Got the top metal mount cut out, which will mount to the wood top not to mention act like a template for drilling it out.

The wood top.

Went with M8 t-nuts, they’re bigger than the commonly used 1/4 - 20.

Mock fitment works well, although one bolt may fit a tad tight for the backrest so I adjusted my drawing for a 0.35" holes vs the 0.32" holes used.

And a mock up of how I’ll do my backrest.

It’s got me a bit stumped because I need to go thinner gauge material. This whole setup is done out of 3/16" so I’m pretty sure 1/8" will suffice especially since I plan to add a center brace for welding.

Once the top is done, I can move forward with cutting down the leadscrew for the proper height.

I made a longer back rest for a friend’s Viper chair. It was made from 11 ga steel and basically copied the original support, except longer and with slots to make the pad height adjustable.

I’d be happy to send you the file, if it helps you

Oh it would help immensely, please do!

Mainly because it’ll actually give me a great reference for the height and angle of everything. My model above was just out of thin air in terms of angle and size of the steel to use.

On another note, I might know how to do a lot of things but sewing and owning a sewing machine is not one of them

Just got home from dropping off the leather, foam, and wood top as I’m getting the leather cut and sewn and the top cushion done.

I didn’t want to do the normal wrapping of the cushion with leather, stretching it over using 1,000 staples. I want the cushion to somewhat maintain it’s ‘boxy’ shape so I asked for a strip to be cut around the circumference like a band and sewed to the top.

The shop told me I got a really high quality leather when they got a feel for it, and I’ll have plenty left over.

Bravo! She’s a beauty. Nice touch with your XPro in the background.

@ds690

Modified it a tiny bit and cut a test part out, I dig it!

It’s similar to what I had drawn above but you saved me all the time with your rear brace.

Just need to grab some 1/8" to get the parts out. But not until I figure out a new backrest pad.

Weird thing is, your DXF was open at every arc.

I know your drawing was clean, cause we’ve been doing this awhile, but I guess I now understand when others get a clean DXF from me even.

For some reason, both parts weren’t shaded and by turning on points, you could see the white dots at each straight line and at the end of each arc.

Glad it worked out for you. Those files went back and forth from Freecad to Inkscape, so they may have lost something in the translation between SVG and DXF.

That makes sense!

I don’t use or know how to use Inkscape and I’ve never even heard of Freecad

I just chopped the overall height by 3.5" and enlarged the slots a tiny bit since my friend has some 10 gauge he wants to give me.

Freecad usually works fine to export a sketch as DXF. I’ve never had a problem with importing them into Sheetcam.

Inkscape will disconnect all of the lines and arcs when I import a DXF, so I have to select everything and group it back together.

There are a number of different versions of DXF, so maybe Fusion didn’t like the version I used to export them.

Well, stool cushion is delayed.

Knocked out the backrest real quick at least.

The name stands out being that it’s raw steel but it’ll hide much better once it’s all painted.

Got some wrinkle paint from VHT I’ll be using.
