Working on a 58 Ford f100 with my daughter and enjoying the experience. She really wanted speakers and music so we cut out some door panels with fun elliptical speaker holes. The plasma table is so cool!
Good stuff!
Yeah, that was me that did the remix.
The original author never made the fixture himself and like many others…you just wonder how well it’ll work or not (I hate when people don’t take pictures of the finished product).
I did mine in 3/16"
Yes your remix and detail of the how, made me give it a try. Really liked the sturdy look. Wish I had thicker steel but $$$. 1/8” worked but a bit sloppily for those slots but a little magnet 90 tool and setting everything the same sloppy side seems to have worked very well when welding. I made two of them to get 42” of size. Might make for a weird table
You need to find a better supplier! The 3/16" I used there cost me nothing, but often times I’ll get a 2’ x 3’ for as little as $10
I’m in Boulder Colorado so I’m surprised they even let me cut steel here on my own property due to the off gas :). Maybe I’ll look around but been getting my steel from a welding and gas supply store. Only one I’ve found that seems to be open or have stock.
Ahh makes sense; I have a friend in Boulder…or maybe she’s in Aurora now I forget
She blew my mind when she told me how much she pays for 80cf of 75/25; pays about double what I pay for my 160cf of 75/25 so technically…four times as much
Those little tanks get you every time!
Took me two years to find the tank but I finally got a 200cf tank for my TIG welder I have had for a year. I have a 300 on my 252 that I got when I purchased the welder and a 120 on the 211.
Tank prices around here are super high… if they will even sell you one.
Really depends where you’re located; places like where I’m at it only costs $34 to exchange a 60cf tank of Argon.
Costs $57 to exchange a 160cf of 75/25 through the same supplier.
Been paying this amount for years and it has not changed at all, not to mention I own all my own tanks (got 3).
Other states have shops that only lease their tanks, or insist on filling yours (added labor cost, plus more in gas cost as well) and it’s ridiculous.
I won’t even get into metal costs as I’m surprised by others; 16 gauge cold-rolled out here in 4’ x 8’ runs you $85 total with tax and that included 3 shears. Been the same price for years as well.
So this super helpful as I’m new to welding. I paid $425 for a 80cu 75/25 at the welding and gas shop. Purchase not lease, full.
Out of curiosity I went on Amazon and bought 100 argon 80cu, full for $300….
I want to support local but sweet Christmas.
Same shops is about $120 for 4x8 16 ga sheet.
I had quotes the other day for a steel order, tube, angle and sheet. Three quotes and high to low was almost $1500 difference.
Then the other day, I got a quote for C-channel and sheet, as it looked like prices were down from the last time I was quoted (year ago). It came in a few hundred more ($3900) I talked with my salesperson and told them that I thought maybe prices had come down. She revised it and it was 20% cheaper. You never know on pricing!
I spent the last month cleaning and organizing the shop in ways I never thought I could achieve. Now, I can find everything, it’s all in a logical flow (to the way I work) and it’s a pleasure to have friends visit. Still struggling to wrap my brain around putting tools back in their proper place while working on a project, but I’m getting there. I think I’ve reached this stage as I’m now completely debt-free (free at last, free at last), and no longer chasing the clock on multiple projects because I need to. The shop is even more pleasurable than before …if that makes sense!
…and yet, a good stream of work is lined up for the rest of the year, pretty much.
Good things come to people who know their stuff.
What kind of filament did you use on the horseshoe? It looks really good. I just got an X1 Carbon a couple months ago and that filament needs to be in my AMS! When you’re printing two different filaments at the same time like that how much time does it add to your project?
I bought a pair of 125CF bottles from Primeweld, one straight Argon and one 75/25. They cost $370/each but I don’t remember if shipping was included I just remember it was a REALLY good deal for brand new bottles that you own not lease and can get filled when you need to. Finally ran the 75/25 dry and took it to the local AirGas to get it filled, of course they want you to buy their bottles and are hesitant to exchange other bottles so I told him it had a DOT stamp less than a year old and at least take a look at it. I rolled it in and he eyeballed it for a minute and said (paraphrasing here) “Huh, that’s interesting. This is our bottle.”
Turns out AirGas either bought that bottle manufacturer or they use them exclusively and they exchanged bottles with me with no more discussion. So if you’re looking for a really good deal on a 125CF bottle of welding gas (only 100 Argon or 75/25 though) Primeweld turns out to be a great place to get them and you won’t have any problem exchanging them at AirGas.
I’m running mainly PETG on my A1 combo. Your X1C is a little faster than mine so you might even save another 20 mins on print time. I have AMS lite not enclosure on top of my machine so make sure you tape or use plastic rolls in your AMS if going to use the cardboard rolls.
Here is one way to help with waste. Recalculating to like 0.5 or 0.75. Just make sure your colors are correct.
So far I’ve only used PLA, but I’m willing to try PETG for that kind of gold. Thanks for all the info!
I too have only used PLA. I really must get around to trying PETG. I have an Ender 3 Pro and it serves me well.
If you’re still using the Ender3 with Marlin firmware, you’d be amazed at the print speed of the newer Klipper based printers.
I’m looking at getting a 3D printer. But don’t want to go all out on a beginner machine so my question is are the Enders a good choice for starting out? The reviews on Amazon are all over the map.
If anyone can recommend a good beginner machine that won’t break the bank
I’m sure there is tons of options.
