Better laser guide mod?

That’s a really nice setup.

Would you mind posting some part numbers from your setup.

The lasers were purchased on Amazon, part number B01A0VLMPK. The power supply is a 3V wall wort I had lying around. Any DC supply 2.7V to 3.7V will work. The aluminum bracket I drew on Fusion 360 and cut out on the plasma table. The screws are 3mm diameter, 10mm longer than the material I used. The plexiglass shields were cut on my laser engraver and bent over a heater for that purpose.

Ok I just want to say this is a great thread on Laser guides.

I know a buch of you guys did something like this on your machine. I am wondering how they worked out.

Did the mount you selected work well?

Did you choice of lasers work well?

Anything you changed or would like to change?

Did you go red or green on laser color?

Did you like your choice?

Did anyone do this on the XR and leave the plastic shield on?

Thanks

Thanks for uploading the file, worked great!
And thank you jpep for the original!

Have you been using your set up long? if so do you have to re-adjust it often?

I installed, adjusted, ran some cuts, fished out the 4 screws that I didn’t tighten, put the screws back with locktite and re-adjusted.

I found it super easy to align and to verify its alignment is correct, so I don’t think it will be too much of an issue. Just peck a hole manually in any scrap and verify the alignment.

I think some people are replacing the wing nuts with regular nuts and other parts of the Chinese mounting hardware so they could better tighten or make the Mount more stiff, I am not sure that’s necessary.

I’ll come back and comment if something changes, but surely someone before me would have done so previously if the upgrade fails.

I’ll be honest, I had my setup on for a couple months until it started being more of a pain than it was worth and I yanked it all off. Keeping the laser lines square never lasted long regardless of how tight I made anything. Unfortunate because I really liked it when I first set it up

Thanks for the update I found the same thing to be true.

I put a lot of superglue on the ball joints once they were aligned. They stay aligned, unless I whack them with a piece of metal or something.

Do you have a DXF file for the mounting plate? I looked on Fireshare but didn’t see it. Thanks.

Here is my file. Not sure if that is what you are looking for. The center portion is meant to bend up to support wires.
Torch Laser Bracket.dxf (14.3 KB)

I appreciate the quick response, I was actually looking for the file from tmostad’s build. Thanks though!

Thanks I’m gonna give your design a try .

It worked but I kept having the lasers move on me. I now rely on a straight edge that I attached to the table. Low tech.
