Y-axis upgrade with Stepperonline DM860T

These settings for the current are in line with the langmuir driver values. You can trying changing them and see if that solves the noise issue, but be mindful that if you lower the current that might reduce the stepper performance under load and if you increase it, it could cause some damage to the stepper motor if they are not rated for higher current. And I am not sure what motor we got in there.

Other than the one ipm setting…overall happy with performance… plus I don’t feel comfortable ā€œplayingā€ around with that setting. Last thing I need at the moment is to replace the motors cause I fried them.

I’ve run it all sorts of speeds, all sounds about the same.

Langmuir’s wiring colors aren’t standard, so unfortunately copying someone else’s machine might not help you. They aren’t even consistent axis to axis on my machine.

I don’t understand the benefit of using these drivers, except for the price. The high-power units that Langmuir sells work tremendously and are plug-and-play for the most part. Some of you guys have modified this machine to move faster and do things that are outside its standard capabilities. Most of these guys need to leave the engineering to Langmuir. Guys like AlexW and Speppino are trained and very capable of this. Most are over their heads. Again, this is Bigdaddy2166 two cents.

for me, its just about cost, mine does not have the upgrades being one of the first batch. i want to upgrade now since i stall it sometimes and this is half price. also easy to keep as a spare

CAN I USE DM870 REPLACE THE DM860T?

Why? The correct stepper driver is CWD-860H, and it costs only 28 euros more. That’s the high-power unit. If you need an original standard one, I have three. I will send you one if they are not available.

Thanks, if i need, i will contact you.

Just installed these on the Y axis - and had a spare high power driver from LS - and installed it on X axis. Works great - slightly different noises but no difference in performance. We’ll see how it works out longevity wise - but so far - great solution.

Finally got around to installing mine on the y axis. Everything works, followed your video and worked great. Thank you. Only thing I did was set my peak voltage lower than you did. I looked at where Langmuir had the other high powered drivers switches set. So I set them the same. Again thank you, I normally don’t play with things like this, I learned a bunch in the process.

I am glad the video helped. Hope it improved your machine’s performance.

Is the cwd-860h the driver that lanmuir sells as a upgrade?

Yes, Plug and Play. Two wires need to be switched. There directions are good.

I noticed in your video that your x-axis driver seems to be similar to the new y-axis ones. Mine is the same as the y-axis small ones. Did you upgrade the x, or did it come that way for yours? Is there an upgrade description for x that you know of on the forum. I searched, but didn’t see one.
Thanks

The X driver is a Langmuir high power one that I ordered separately. Before I found these for the Y. I think these new stepper-online drivers are more sophisticated and a better deal in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that’s what I figured. Am I right to assume that the x could be upgraded with the same driver you used for y, and I assume with the same settings and wiring?
It looks like what’s there on mine, x is similar to the y-axes.

Indeed. You can definitely do the same with X axis. Let me know how it goes.
Cheers

Thanks! Nice to have some by-in. I’ll order another one.
