I am brand new to the world of CNC machining and any insight would be greatly appreciated, not sure if I am over thinking or doing something wrong. I recently began assembling my MR-1 and have run into issues with getting my Y-Axis measurements to line up. Per the instruction I should 34” between both Y-Axis rail mounts which I do, however I have tried every which way to orient the rail mounts and my diagonal measurement remains about .25” off from being equal. Has anyone else run into this problem? Additionally the Coplanarity Check Gauge that I have will not stay flat/level. Has anyone else run into this issue, I do not want to bend or make an adjustments to the Coplanarity Check Gauge as it may throw off the results.
I used a small welding magnet on the center bottom.
As for being square, I would reach out to Langmuir.
I think you’ll find that you have a parallelgram instead of a rectangle. Try loosening things up and shifting the rear left or right a touch. I had the same trouble and it too me a while to get everything properly aligned before pouring.
I fought some of the same issues and as Alex suggests, I had a parallelogram. As best I can remember it was around 1/4” different that I couldn’t adjust out as well.
I ended up using some steel tie wire to my furthest corners and making a tension wire setup to keep it pulled square while pouring the concrete.
I had the same problem when I assembled the machine too. I turned out to be one of the rails had the bolt holes machined wrong. I measured the holes of each rail and provided that info to Langmuir and based on that information they sent me another rail. Once I received the new rail I compared it to the other one I had and the bolt holes matched and was able to get the rails squared up from that point.
It is like building a framed house wall… Your “studs” are 16” apart but the wall is out of square. Very slightly (Did I say very slightly?) loosen the bolds Put a rachet strap on the long measurement. Check all you measurements again, adjust as need BUT don’t adjust both rails just adjust one. Go slow and it will all come together.
Tighten everything again. I had the same problem and once I got it right it has stayed perfect. I pour Friday BTW ![]()
I typed “pout” instead of “pour” hopefully not a Freudian slip ![]()
Word of advise, when you get everything lined up weld that sob to the pan. Or secure it somehow because when you pour the concrete it will move.
