What does this error mean

Hey y’all, I keep getting an “offset open paths” error, and its not the first time.

What does it mean, and what am I looking for in order to correct it?

Lastly, what will happen if I run it like that?

I tried looking it up, but my “Search Fu” is weak today.

It means you have a line not a loop it fires on the line and cuts the center of that line .

Is it intended to cut circles then a line through them?

Do you see white lines in your design in sheetcam? They are open lines.

@Phillipw It was not my intention to cut the circles in half. The circles were supposed to be holes for bolts to go through.

The lines going from the outside toward the center were “construction lines” in Fusion…at least that is what I thought they were. They were not supposed to be cut lines.

I do not see see any white lines. They are all green.

Here is my Fusion drawing.

Now if I “roll over” certain areas with my mouse, the “construction lines” appear, like so.

The line would be white before you set up a operation. I assume the error is because the lines go through the holes. You may be able to go to mode and edit contours click on those lines and hit the delete key

I just play in fusion and not a lot you may be best to delete the construction lines and start over.

You may not need to go to edit contours and there is a possibility it may not allow you to delete them in sheetcam

Normally that error message is just advising you that your design has lines that will not have any offset applied, so it will cut directly on the line. This is not a problem if your designs have lines that are not connected to anything else, like bend relief cuts. In that case you can ignore the warning.

In the case that your design doesn’t have any intentional open lines, you need to look for spots where your design may not be connected. As Philip said, those lines should appear as white lines when you first import the drawing. If your designs don’t show as red, yellow and white lines when you import them, you have that function turned off. The green lines are cut paths that only show after you create an operation.

In your current situation, it appears that the file that you saved from Fusion is the problem. However you exported or saved it, it saved your construction lines as part of the sketch.

Oh…do you mean like this?

Yep those are open lines so it would cut them on the line.

I am not sure about the transition between f360 and sheetcam.

Me personally I would try to edit contours and attempt to delete them or put them in another layer. That way it wouldn’t create a cut path for them

You should be able to use the “edit contours” tool to move those white lines to another layer. Hover the mouse over the tools at the top to see what they do.

Using that tool, right click on the line and select " move to layer". Make a new layer and call it something like “don’t cut”. Then move all of the white lines to that layer. You may have to delete your current operation an create a new one using only the original layer.

Whatever I am doing wrong, at least I am being cosistant, cause it just happened again on the next part.

Then here it is after

One thing I noticed is that if I zoom in real close it looks like there are 2 lines that kind of “overlap”, and it always happens where those “dots” are.

If that is a line intended to cut it isn’t connected with the other lines.

Are those construction lines? It may be a program transition issue…

If those are unwanted do the same.

It appears to be a problem that starts at these 2 spots for whatever reason.

here is the Sheetcam image to compare it with “side by side”

I tried to zoom in close they appear to not be connected.

Here is one of the “dots” in Fusion. I zoomed in as much as possible and I can’t see a break in the line.

Sheetcam definitely sees a break. You can zoom in in sheetcam and see it if you turn the dots off. I am not sure which feature that is I don’t use those.

@pamopar I can only get this, and I am not sure how I did it.

TX star paddle holder cut out.dxf (3.1 KB)

and here is the “center” that I posted first.

6 inch Texas Star center…dxf (4.7 KB)

@ds690 I tried to move them like you said, but they still remain.

Shut the front door!!!
@ds690 I think I got it…is this what you were talking about doing?
