Waterproofing stepper motors, z-alignment shimming

I finally got my mill up and running and have made a few parts. I haven’t installed the washdown kit or completed the final alignment of the Z axis.

  1. I have my stepper motors installed with the wires up. Can I just put silicon around the wires of the stepper motor? Is that where the water is getting in and ruining them?
  2. My z-axis has quite a bit of headnod. Will I get better alignment results with the tram tool or with the 1-2-3 block? Any tips for nailing this?

Just do not spray the limit switches, and you’ll be just fine. I learned the hard way. The newer switches are supposed to be liquid-proof, but I would not spray them anyway.
