Tooling Purchase Guide for Langmuir Punches and Dies

For all the new customers getting balance payments that want some advice on what tooling to get, I’ve thrown together some documents that should help you.

Tooling Purchasing Guide.pdf (147.4 KB)
A rundown of how to make Tooling purchasing decisions - showing the material thicknesses each die covers, as well as the pros and cons of each punch. The guide also features some ideas for tooling packages you could purchase given different personal needs.

Punch & Die Guide.pdf (1018.8 KB)
A list of the tooling we sell along with their dimensions and product codes. When looking through the Tooling Purchasing Guide, you will likely want to cross reference the advice with the products in this pdf.

Note: Prices in the above pdfs may be out of date or inaccurate.

If anyone else has anything else to add - questions or advice of your own, let me know in the comments below.

Well that post is about a day late for me, lol. I literally made my purchase last night and just did a random mix. Had I seen that last night I would have been a bit more informed about my purchase and just went with the full package :man_facepalming:t2: If my machine and tooling hasn’t shipped yet would it be too late to make a change to the full package?

Yes - just be quick and email our customer support line: support@langmuirsystems.com
or call us at (833) 526-4797. We should be able to adjust your order before it goes out.

Do you have any idea when these will be available for purchase separately for those of us who have already ordered and want to purchase additional tooling?

If you haven’t gotten your final balance payment request yet: wait for that.

If you have paid your final balance payment but your machine hasn’t shipped yet - give us a call and we can change your order or potentially give you a new invoice that won’t require extra shipping costs.

If you have already received your machine: Email us anytime with a list of the tooling you want to purchase and we will get you an invoice for what we have in stock. This invoice will include the small parcel shipping costs for the tooling, which can be very heavy.

Will you guys be offering smaller width punches? Rule of thumb I’ve heard is to try not to gap more than 2x material thickness for best visual results. That means for thinner gage material having a few more lengths would be useful like 1-1/4, 1-1/8, 7/8, 1/2. Meanwhile I might make a set, can you share the hardness of the tooling so I don’t chew thru blades?

I suggest you but a 16" die and cut what you want. Press brake dies can easily be sawed in a band saw. For Langmuir to keep those lenghts in inventory would be their wildest Nightmare.

Given how many parts their machines have, I’m sure that’s not their wildest nightmare. Lol!

Received our machine , ordered months ago missing some dies (no packing slip noting that) seems 3-4 months out, waiting on a container from China I guess.

We called on our missing tooling, same story 3 to 4 months out for us. We received a hodge collection instead of a complete gooseneck and dies.

which tooling did you order? 3 to 4 months is a long time.

We ordered all the 4 ways, 5 risers and all extreme goosenecks.

We’re missing the 16", 8" dies and the risers.

I purchased the exact same setup  great minds think alike  I stressed over it for 2 days trying to figure out the best combination. This seems to be the most versatile and cover the most materials. I thought the prices were reasonable, and i’m sure i’ll order many more after I get2bendin’. My only concern was the extreme gooseneck being able to handle 1/4’ and 3/8".

Thanks for the update

Just an idea to build your own Riser plates. Search…eBay item number:296662357320 to see a cheap way to Build your riser Plate. Buy a piece 1/2 x 8 CR Bar x 36". Add a piece of 1/2" Keyway stock (maybe undersized) x 36" to the bottom of the plate by drill/tapping/ and countersinking. Zoro has 5/8" x 1" x 36" CR stock for $20.00 delivered for push blocks. I can give you the part numbers of the Adjustament Screws. I weld the Centering Coupling nuts on about 8" centers. May not work for you but it works good foe me. Hubert
