I just installed THC on a new crossfire. When I jogged the Z axes it only traveled up and down about an inch.
It should travel much more than an inch. The coupler must be slipping.

Or maybe you have the torch mounted at a odd height?

here is a hint for mounting a torch…set the Z axis all the way down…then adjust your torch so the tip is just below the top of the slats…
this way if you have an accident and the torch misses the metal it will not touch the water…
