Has anybody attempted tapping holes? What are the pros and cons of tapping and thread milling. Can I wire my motor to respond to a reverse motor code? I’m trying to make the logo for my school and put holes in the bottom and tap or thread mill them, and then attach them to a plaque and maybe sell them to my school to give to the board of directors or something. Thanks
The machine can’t tap in its stock configuration.
It can’t run in reverse. Thread milling is the way to go. You will never use a tap again.
Can you thread mill a hole with a bottom? Ive only seen guys thread mill a large bore through-type hole.
Yes, without any problems. Watch some Fusion treadmill videos to get the just of it. Then, practice on a sacrificial piece of aluminum. NYCNC has a couple of good videos on the subject.
thanks for the help!
Thanks BigDaddy. I don’t even have a mill and I enjoyed that video!
Not only is the spindle forward only, but it also doesn’t have a sychronized speed mode where it can report position information back to the controller.
The spindle hardware (servo drive and motor) support these features, but they aren’t wired up or supported by the CutControl controller.
