Spring 2023 Firepit design "contest"

Firepit ring - holes at top.dxf (692.8 KB)

Any chance you could put this firepit ring in 3D for a circle if that is possible. i know how to do bend lines but not sure on how to do a circle. Attached is firepit ring i just made up quick with holes in the top. I’ll do couple designs for fileshare once i prove out the design which is pretty simple. i did add a way to stake it to the ground which I think is cool and it will be hidden when you bolt the other side in the front. I also did a slot for bolt so there is a little bit of adjustment. I think this is good ideas instead of fixed hole but what do you think? No rush on video if you have time i can watch it and learn.

All these stoves and fire pits are looking great!! And you all look like you are having much better Spring weather than I! @DonP I’m headed to Michigan for work next week and looking at your fire pit pics has me excited to get out of the snow!! I finally got out to the shop and did some cutting this week. My friends son is studying manufacturing engineering and had a project designing a 2x72 belt sander for a project that is due next week. Finished cutting out the parts for them lastnight. Froze my but off. Still snowing here. Took this pic yesterday… woke up to more snow this morning… and snowed all day. I think @brownfox probably got more snow than we did up north… some areas around the Wasatch front got 30" of snow with resorts getting almost 6 FEET out of this storm…

We had a warm front come through a couple weeks ago and the rain melted most of the 28” of snow I had before… but now it’s back!

This is our ski patrol shack at the top of our mountain. It sits on 12’ tall stilts!! Only the second time I’ve ever seen it where you could walk right in. Last time was in 2011.

Originally i was thinking I’d wait to do my fire pit when the snow melts… I think in better just grit my teeth and get out in the cold!

I look forward to seeing pics of your firepit. You’re going to enjoy next week in Michigan with 70’s-degree days and everything starting to turn green.

Huh, it was 89 degrees and sunny at my place yesterday… :sunglasses: :sunflower: :sunflower: :sunflower:

Fire Ring 3D view v1

I’ll start a video in about 10-15minutes

The slot is a good idea.

Just starting now 6:20 am pst

you can download the fusion file from here . it was too big to post once I entered the rendering workspace.

Clever, clever. I tried to do this and got the round to the flat pattern but no matter what I did, I could not get it to come out of that flat pattern with any changes due to the lack of the little trick of an minimal “fold” extrusion. Thanks @DonP for asking and Tin for answering.

anyone doing smudge pots? that seems to be the latest “craze” these days.

I had a buddy text me about it the other day and I had no idea what it was for I thought it was some kind of ceremonial smudging with sage or something. So I looked it up and I guess it’s an old technique for keeping the frost off the fruit trees in an orchard.
I looked up on fireshare and there’s one file.

@TinWhisperer Thanks for showing us how to do the circle. I’ll have to play around with it later. I’ll fix the hole pattern for that one also. Main thing was see how to make a circle on fusion in 3D. I can really move around in 2D. I’ll try to keep patterns simple and easy for others to cut on PRO. Currently at work making money for all the metal I plan on cutting this weekend…lol. I have a couple cool new projects going.

Yeah they look pretty cool and are vertically “smokeless”.

I’ve seen people use diesel fuel or used motor oil for the fuel.

Very cool @nicaDd

I feel smudge pots would be completely eligible for this design"contest’

Fire inside metal , it checks off the criteria.

Completely agree…cool things that burn

10 degrees at my house this morning… but the sun is out! I haven’t seen my lawn since mid November. Its been a crazy year.

@DonP Definitely looking forward to it. I do wish I was going in July. Michigan is such a beautiful state in the summertime!

I would also like to see some designs that use wood pellets! Perhaps need some engineering wizards to help with the gravity feed design.

@72Pony That is a lot of snow. It was 31 degrees here yesterday morning. Today it was 40 degrees when I got up.

@ChelanJim

I am on board for helping with the wood pellet design if someone wants to spearhead one.

I wonder if one of these little fans could be harnessed to help with that endeavor?!

This particular fan has an oscillating head which is amazingly cool to watch.

Here is another prototype stove.

Happy with the cuts and the clearance on the slots and tabs for this one.

Boiled some water made a cup of tea.

I’m going to do some reworking in fusion and come up in there another prototype soon.

I would have loved one of these when I was doing a lot of backpacking with my kids when they (we) were younger

My kids have enjoyed these as I started to make and test them in backyard. Luckily we will be able to use them in the bush before the fire ban comes on.

Maybe a little heavy for backpacking.:muscle:

I’m going to do a few more iterations, post it and you’ll have the plan. Build one enjoy it in your backyard soon.

Working on this prototype for my next fire pit.

Its A Truncated Hexacone Wye Made to look like a log. This is one piece of the overall fire pit.

Made from two flat patterns.
