What is everybody using for spark defection on end of torch . I was told a kitchen funnel ?? Or what is everybody else using that has helped ???
A silicone kitchen funnel could be used as a deflector on the end of your torch.
I used one for a short period of time.
When I did go that route I purchased mine for quite cheaply at a dollar store.
For myself I run a machine torch , I did not find it provided me with enough benefit to keep using it.
Other people swear by it.
Silicone funnel off Amazon. Measure your torch barrel and get one that will fit. Use the red one and give the others to your wife.
I pooched the red one and ended up cutting down the plus one. Makes a huge difference.
It’s a fine concept, but eventually it will snag on a tip up or burn through and ruin a cut. I ditched it pretty quickly, then pu tit back on when I realized it does wonderful job of preventing water from splashing up onto the z axis if you leave the funnel flat.
The sparks that come off during cutting arent that bad, it’s the pierce splash that’s the worst.
Yea these things help the mess caused by water and sparks.
But keep in mind that they also can cause a lot of damage to your torch. Because now all the water and sparks are funneled right onto the torch head. Torch’s are mostly made up of brass and copper that does not like water or sparks. The o-rings does not like sparks and the springs in the plunger and cup pins does not like water over time they will rust, causing misfires and fail. Not to mention the wear on your cutting tip, cup and cnc shield.
So that few dollar thing can cause hundred’s of dollars in repairs or for a new torch.
