I bet the POR15 would last longer than the table itself. Lol.
Do you guys always clean your tables like that?? Is it necessary? I’ve been just running mine. The bottom is unusually full of stuff
I only clean it if it’s going to be drained for a bit. Haven’t cut enough at once to have it fill enough to be an issue. But… I also suffer from CDO.
You know, like OCD… except in alphabetical order, the way it should be! Lol.
So that’s nasty looking
I’m a use & drain guy so that would give me the willies. But it is just a tool after all
I do drain it after every time I use it
I don’t think a mat will prevent galvanic corrosion. By its nature, the corrosion occurs electrochemically and metal is pulled from the weaker metal (anode) to the stronger one (cathode) via a conductive environment and conductive pathway between the two (i.e salt water). So if the condition exists within the table, but areas of the table were isolated by the mat, the effects would be concentrated at any remaining areas of aluminum still in contact with the table.
Read the link below for more details information and examples of GC. The more I learn about this the more is seems obvious why large scale tables do to use aluminum water tables.
links the explain galvanic corrosion:
This link includes the charts to estimate the reactivity of dissimilar metals.

wonder if grounding at the table vs grounding at the slats would make a difference… i was grounded at the anode which grounded the whole tray but after painting it i’m grounding at the slats.
The mat is only used with the help of clean up, nothing to do with corrosion. Still using the Sodium Carbonate mixed to ph of 9.0 and still no corrosion occurring in my tank. I do not keep it filled if not going to use it within 24 hrs.
Understood, my comment was to provide some info to mirage2991 who earlier in the thread was looking at that as an option as well as discussing isolating parts of the table.
Yup, agree with you. I too think that grounding to the work or slats is better than the table or anode.
