Snapped the probe right off

Calibrating the probe on the tool setter. I was worried as the probe was approaching the tool setter… so I reached for the e-stop. But I was about 200 milliseconds too late. The probe snapped right off. Ok, I’m a noob and lesson learned.

I’m about to order the replacement probe but I’m curious:

Is there anything I can do with the old probe? Can it be repaired? Is there a replacement probe doohickey available?

Besides experience and not being an idiot, is there anything that can be done to fool proof the probe/tool setter relationship so this can’t happen again?

You only need to replace the probe stem, it screws off the probe body. They sell the stems /tips on the website or just email Jake asking for a new probe tip.

Ah! Thank you for that. I looked and didn’t see anything like it. But now i know it’s there somewhere and I’ll find it.

Cheers!!

Did you test the probe functionality by pushing the stem and looking for the prompt at the bottom of cut control?

Im so deathly afraid of breaking it its forced habit ( knock on wood) and i double check before i run my program that ive removed it

You will have to call or email them for the probe. Sometimes they use a thread locker to assemble it. You may want to disassemble it before trying to unscrew it. Maybe use a LITTLE heat to release the thread locker. Good luck.. I keep two extra probes just in case. We all have done it. Sometimes the machine does it for you.

Havn’t tried that yet. but I will .

Tanks.

Thanks, good to know. I sent an email/message to Jake. Will ring them up if I dont’ hear.

Keep a couple of these on hand. You might need to adjust the flex by about 0.001” or so. Otherwise it’s a lifesaver.

That’s brilliant. And it saves me from having to invent that myself. Within minutes of it happening I started thinking about how it could have been prevented. Will definitely pick up a few of these and give them a try. Of course, hopefully I never have to see how well they work.
