It really is nice if you have room to maneuver it. You will notice that the cheaper ones have a plastic locking lever (that is what mine is like).
I hadn’t noticed that, but, fortunately, the one I ordered is a metal mechanism. Good to know.

Whenever I import drawings I include a 1" line segment. Then I scale the whole drawing until the line segment is 1". Then I delete the line segment and carry on.

Excellent point. On my last time using it, I wrote the distance across the entire span. Once scanned, converted to svg and imported, I resized/calibrated and that worked very well.
I just did not expect I would need to do that. I am going to pay more attention and see if it is something like Tom said with the dpi. As I mentioned, I have very little experience with the device so I probably need to play around with it some more.
