Remote Controller For PRO and XR

There are a few topic on remote controllers for the XR and PRO, but here I’d like to discuss the one I’ve been using for several years both on the PRO and now on the XR.

As far as a controller goes I have been happy with the wireless SNES style clone .

Here is a Canadian Amazon link.

For Software Antimirco

Here is how I have laid out the controller which worked well for me on the PRO and also worked when I bought a XR.

here is the the program config file I use. Rename the file and remove “.dxf” from the file before loading into antimicro.

FireControl_XR_SNES.joystick.amgp.dxf (5.4 KB)

Please let me know how it works out for you or if you experience any issues.

That is great info! Thanks. I have been using a numeric keypad but your controller idea is much simpler.

I did want to note that controller is “currently unavailable” but a quick search for “miadore 2Pack 2.4GHZ Wireless SNES” in the Amazon U.S. webpage brought up a reasonable alternative:

Do you know if that wireless dongle & Keymap Driver works on a powered hub? My CNC router’s laptop doesn’t have enough USB ports to support yet another one. Everything USB is plugged into the hub.

Good point ! I’ll add that I have a USB hub (splitter) plugged in my laptop at the shop which the controller is plugged into.

I’ll take a picture of what hub I have today

@ChelanJim thank you for adding a link to the American product

I’ve been using this Xbox controller for 2 yrs on my Pro. I’m happy with it.

It was $22.00 from Amazon but it shows as currently unavailable from the vendor I used. I’m sure there are other options for purchase.

I am also running the Antimicro mapper. I think I got that direction from one of Tin’s earlier posts(thanks!).

@TomWS

This is the USB hub I’m using.

I just plugged it all into the laptop and it seemed to figure itself out.

There’s been a couple times in the past where I’ve had to unplug and plug that hub back in to get it to recognize but it’s been very few times.

If your computer has bluetooth, you can connect that way without the use of hubs due to lack of USB ports.

Many controllers support bluetooth including those from modern consoles.

So if you connect using the OS Bluetooth driver, do you also run a keyboard mapper app?
If so, which one?

I have Windows 11 on the PC I accidentally connected my controller to.

I say accidentally cause sometime waaaay back my dongle wasn’t connected to my controller. Naturally I hit the “sync” button on my controller and I remember a prompt saying my controller connected via bluetooth.

Connecting via dongle has far less latency than connecting via bluetooth which is important for gaming.

Anyway, it was either Windows or Xbox software that allows manual remapping.

@Sticks needs to read more, post less.

I have been using this product for four years now, and it handles everything related to jogging. I can position the torch exactly where I want it and simply push the button on the screen to operate it. It lasts for years on a AA battery.

Hey that could be useful when I’m using Blender! Then I can go back to my Compact keyboard and pull out the number pad only when I need it!

Thanks!

I can see that being useful for those without a 10-key or someone that’s not computer illiterate.

Many (on Facebook specifically) fail to realize that any accessory can be remapped easily.

I’m a fan of bluetooth-enabled devices for this reason.

No USB ports used up and completely wireless!

I have a USB dongle like the one TinMan uses.
I like the small numbers keypad because I can walk around with it. I also have a mini keyboard that works, too. I have XXL hands and end up pushing two buttons at a time. It’s an upgraded version of the MR1 mini. I am happy with “X-Mouse Button Control” and I am using with a Bluetooth mouse. And it is also free. I have had it for over 18 months…no problems.

Here is the the control screen. I keep forgetting that I made one of the side buttons allow me to zoom +/- the view in Fusion when it locks you out of that function.

When you set it up, this is its default directory (not intuitive) so it was by accident that I found it again. It will allow you to pin it to the start menu or the task bar.

Here are two links for the download. The first link is the one I used:

Disclaimer: I am not claiming that this is any better than the one Tin is recommending. I did find this one to require me to read the literature to understand how to program it.

When I first downloaded it, it was more primitive. Now it has drop down menus that help in the app.

Wait maybe I’m missing the point but this still requires a laptop to be connected to the machine with firecontrol active?

Yes, but you can walk around the table, moving the torch to the exact position you want. It is beneficial. But yes, the laptop or computer needs to be connected.
