Razorweld45 overheating

Does anyone else have issues with the razorweld 45 overheating? I can usually do a good amount of cutting but it will get hot and stop cutting after some time, I also live in az where it is hot so there is that. In the cooler months it doesn’t seem to be much of an issue. At my work we have the same table with a hypertherm 85 and it does not do the same and that one is used heavily in comparison. I’ve already had a number of issues with the razorweld plasma and I’m thinking it’s time to upgrade. Plus I do like hyertherms sync cartridge system alot more.

Overheating? Or a Duty cycle trip? What are you cutting? Incoming voltage to the plasma cutter will affect the duty cycle.

Machine is overheating,flashes the temp light. I’m cutting 10g and 14g and still have it happening, if I wait between programs it’s usually ok. I’m thinking I may move the machine to be out from under the table and put a fan near it to see if it helps, but I’ve already had other issues with this machine(internal regulator failure) that it makes me want to upgrade. But that’s another expense that will suck but make money in the long run.

You may want to message @mechanic416 .
His name is George. He has a plasma repair company and forget more about plasma than anyone I know. Have you taken the cover off to see if the fans clogged the up or not working correctly? Just a thought.

I have, I also blow it out regularly. I’m thinking that it’s where I live and where it sits is not getting sufficient airflow. In the cooler months 90 degrees or less outside temp 80 or less inside the shop temp, I don’t have any issues. I was more so curious if anyone else had the same issues and looking to see how they solved the problem.

Maybe an aux fan? I have property in Lake Havasu. I have owned it since the late 70s. I never built on it. Hell, the bridge wasn’t even finished yet. To hot for this Yankee…

Im pretty sure its the duty cycle. How long and what amps are you having trouble?

Here is what Google has to say.

The duty cycle of the Razor Cut 45 plasma cutter is 25% at 45 amps at 40°C. The duty cycle refers to the length of time a plasma cutter can run without stopping within a 10-minute period. For example, a duty cycle of three minutes means the cutter can run for three minutes and then needs to cool down for seven minutes.

Above should read duty cycle of 30% not 3 minutes.
I have a RW45 and cut everything at 45 amp I know for a fact I have gone way past three minutes. I also maintain about 65-70 degrees in the summer so I am sure that helps.

You can always slow down your rapids in Fire Contoll and give it more time to cool down between cuts

Good weather for 7 months out of the year, build a winter home so you don’t have to shovel any white stuff. Still hot for me here too I’m originally from Wisconsin

Yeah absolutely, probably going to change it up and see, worst case scenario I upgrade to a new cutter

Could be that, I’m running 45 sometimes 40 or in-between depends on the piece. Run times vary sometimes I can run larger stuff that’s 20 minutes no problem and do some other smaller ones that are 10 minutes. But for instance today I ran 3 programs that were 10 15 and 20 last one got hot at the end, let it cool, finished the program started another 10 minutes program and it ran almost to the end before it stopped, literally a 2" cut was left.

I believe it’s duty cycle mixed with the higher temps here and where it’s located. I’m probably going to wall mount it and put an aux fan near it to keep better airflow.

Finally got around to deigning and building the shelf for the plasma cutter, still need to get an aux fan, I was recommended a special fan for plasma cutters from a buddy of mine that I want to look into. He says it hooks up to the air compressor and pushes air through the machine, I have to research it more and see. But I’m happy with how the shelf turned out

looks good! Remember anything that uses compressed air to run puts more strain on your compressor.
