Question on Transporting MR1 to new location

I’m moving my shop to a new location and will need to transport my MR1. I have a forklift and can get it on a trailer, but I wanted to see if anyone here had any input on keeping it secure and undamaged during transport (about 20 miles away - with 80% highway driving). Also not sure about needing to secure the gantry, etc. inside the unit as well as connecting points on strapping it down. The shell just doesn’t seem strong enough to simply run straps over it (although I have plenty of 4 inch straps to do the job). Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I have a fabricated skid under mine for a forklift. To answer your question, it should ride fine. Maybe some cross braces across the legs.

I’d definitely brace up the legs for transport.
It wouldn’t hurt to fab up a bracket to bolt to your table and secure to the spindle also. Need to keep the ball screws and rails from taking a beating on any big bumps in the road.

I would sink the money into the lift / transport kit they have in the store.

I would have ordered the kit but the shipping is a killer on that one - almost $100. I ended up just using some 1x4 wood for cross-bracing (using the same holes as the kit) all four sides and strapped the tie-downs to the 1x4s and it worked without issue.

Also of note, I had always planned to use a lift (https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-hydraulic-table-cart-60438.html) I have since my garage is too tight to fit my forklift. It worked great - was able to lift the mill easily with a couple of 4x4 sitting on the lift (to keep from hitting the 1.5" drain tube I’ve installed). Side note - in the new shop, the lift is still far easier to move the mill around than using the forklift. It’s also a great solution when working on leveling the feet so you can get the drainage to go in the direction you want
