Programming for Limit Switches

Can someone tell me how the program works when homing? Does the gantry retract until the limit switch clears or does it retract a certain distance? Why am I continually getting a homing error stating failed to clear the switch when retracting? I can only assume it is a certain distance and not until the switch is cleared?

In my experience it is returning to the soft limits set during the homing sequence.

I probably can not help you as a lot of these guys but mine throw error a lot of times when homing because the limit switches get moisture in them . They are suppose to be sending out new limits but have not seen them yet . Sometimes you can hit them with a puff of air . A lot of times I jog thru x y and an and home it again and it’s fine .

Mine started to error out with this same issue as well. Suspected the limit switches. Emailed Langmuir and received the new design limit switches yesterday. Installed and reset the stops & all seems well. Still plan to upgrade to the Metrol precision limit switches at some point.

The other thing to consider is chips getting pinched between the bearing guides and the Y rail bearing holder - these may prevent the carriage from making it all the way to the limit stops. May not be a bad idea to set your stops leaving some room for some accumulation of chips in case you miss some when blowing off the machine.

Hey @Rufus are you still seeing errors while homing? These other guys have made great suggestions as to blowing out the switches to remove moisture or contacting us for new waterproof switches. Have you been able to home successfully before now?

Thank you for checking up on this Jake that is very helpful.
I put a new switch on and have yet to see this issue again. A little confused as the switch did appear to be working and I again don’t understand, does the homing stop when the switch is cleared or is it a set distance? I am also hoping that the constant asking to home will go away as well. I am going to be using this more this week and will find out.
When I am free I will replace all switches.
Anyway to get a wiring schematic for the proble? I have had to pull this one apart multiple times and do not trust it.
