Ground rod just for the gun? Heh ok

So I love my redline gun but just saw that Eastwood is releasing their professional hopper feeder gun for $899 with a 3 year warranty. I am really leaning towards giving this unit a try. Anyone else see it?

The RedLine gun has performed flawlessly for me. I do a lot of colors so the quick change cups are a necessity. Looks like Eastwood offers 2 lb canisters for $69.00. Would be very interested in feedback if anyone buys one of these units. 100kv is not mandatory but would be nice.
Should also add I had the original Hot Coat Gun from Eastwood and it was junk. Cheap plastic fell apart so I tried Harbor Freight. Not great but ok until I upgraded to the RedLine gun and never looked back.

@langmuir-daniel @langmuirsystems Does anyone know the correct name of the ā€œRedā€ color used on the CrossFire Pro? Thanks in advance!

We just ordered a RedLine EZ50 powder coating gun from Pittsburg Spray. They said we can use either Prismatic or Columbia coatings for the actual powder. Do any of you guys have any recommendations for a particular powder supplier?

I generally buy from prismatic as they have a huge color selection and fast shipping

Love the gun. I have used powder from both Columbia and Prismatic. Columbia was shipping free with order over 49.00 which lowers the cost considerably. Not sure if they are still doing this but worth looking into on their website

@oneupperformance @dfreyfbn omgā€¦my brain is fried! There are so many colors of black for instance and then the finish is a choiceā€¦LOL Iā€™m sure I will use alot of black, so having more than one is a good thing. I want to make silhouetteā€™s for address signs and big letters with the personā€™s name running across. I got a salesman on the phone from Prismatic and he was super nice and went over alot. he also said they ship overnight so paint doesnā€™t get hot and crumble. If you do black on something that will be outside, do you top coat it with clear for strength or UV protection?

That drives me crazy looking at the websites and trying to figure out which black I want. How the heck do I know if itā€™s my eyes, they color profile of the PCā€™s screen, the photos or the actual product that makes it look like the color it appears and will it be that color when I get it and apply itā€¦ :stuck_out_tongue:

I purchased a Hyper Smooth 02 Basic for $499 from Columbia Coatings and it is awesome. I got a couple extra vortex cups for it and it does and excellent job as far as Iā€™m concerned since it can make a complete novice like me do this on my third try. This has two coats of green and two of clear which I got a little heavy. Entire system is USA made in Columbia, TN.

Awesome and just love that green!

Me personally, my favorite black is called Harley Denim black. Itā€™s a satin black from the powder coat store. It sprays really nice and always leaves a nice finish.

Iā€™m having a hard time with moisture I think. Could be oils still on part though. What are you using for a final clean before coating?

After I knock the dross off with a cup disk it goes in the blast cabinet and them I blow it off and spray it down with 1:10 iron phosphate and water. Then rinse and its into the oven to burn off anything left for 10-15 minutes. Once it comes out and drops below 150 I spray it and itā€™s back in the oven for 12 minutes.

I typically sand blast, pull out of the cabinet wearing rubber gloves as oils from your hands will contaminate the part. Blow off with air then shoot it. If itā€™s a cast part or oily part, I will outgas it for 45 min or so before sand blasting

Thanks. I think i figured out my problem. My parts i did in silver turned out really good. My blue has been giving me fits so this afternoon i sanded my part down that i powdered yesterday and resprayed. In the oven to a good flow and sprayed a clear topcoat. before the topcoat went on the blue looked so good i almost passed on the clear. After the clear i pulled from oven and it looked like it was just starting to flow. This is after full cook. Then it hit me. The blue is a transparent and i think the clear isnt meshing because the blue is a topcoat. Tomorrow Ill sand it back down and do it blue only and give update

I have a couple of colors that require the first 10mins of the bake at about 50 degrees (F) hotter than the last 30 to get it to flow out fully.

That sounds like Eastwood powder. I started out using Eastwood but now shy away from it because it is too time consuming doing a large batch in a Harbor Freight oven. I stick with 10 minute cure times maybe 15 if itā€™s a color I really like.
