I was running my machine yesterday and the machine started randomly pausing mid cut. It happened ~ 10 times, and each time, it would just sit there for 2-10 seconds, then pick back up where it left off like nothing happened. As far as I can tell, no skipped steps, part came out just fine and dimensionally accurate. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this? It didn’t cause and issue on the part I was making, but I am concerned it could cause issues in the future.
A bit more info:
1/4” 3 Flute Carbide end mill. 0.100” optimal load. ~0.4” depth of cut. 45 IPM. Machine sounded great…didn’t seem like it was pushing it hard at all.
Issue only seemed to happen on 2D Adaptive cuts. Never on any of the Contour or Pockets (Fusion CAM).
I ran two relatively similar parts (.f3d files are attached). Both had 2d Adaptives, but it only happened on the second of the two parts. Seemingly the only difference between the two is that I have “both ways” (Climb and Conventional) selected in the toolpath that was experiencing the pausing issues.
The pausing seemed like it was “buffering,” like you would experience with a youtube video. Could it be a failing USB connection?
Yeah I’m not getting any pauses in the simulation. The pauses seemed to be way too random to be a program artifact…not only are they at random spots in the adaptive cut, they were also random lengths of time. One of my 3d printers experienced something similar a while back where the interpolated curves were somehow creating a data overload issue causing the printer to error out. I’m a mechanical guy though so the computer stuff is beyond me…
I’ve seen this a few times over the years with my machine. No skipped steps and it will just pause for sometimes a second or two and then goes back to running.
The times I can think of that it has happened has been during both 2D and 3D adaptive cutting. The g code is clean where it would pause but, like you said, its like the machine buffered for a second and then went back to running. I’ve seen similar things on more industrial machines where it’s like the control, or pc in this case, doesn’t register that the previous move has ended. Possible momentary loss of connection, but not enough to cause an alarm.
Had that happen last week on one of our VTLs with live tooling. The program has been proven out for a year or so, but one day it just dwelled for about 5 seconds before threading a hole on the part.
Do either of you have your machine connected to the internet or have other programs loaded on the computer, assuming that its the computer langmuir supplied with it (the mini one). Im wondering if it could be malware or just to much stuff going on in the background. I do not nor will mone ever be connected to the net and it only runs cut control. Its the langmuir mini pc
