No torch with Firecontrol (Solved)

Seeing a meme I made reposted is like watching a child grow.

Hahahaha! I do like em both. THC is meh I just wanted an IHS. But I do like limit switches and soft limits. They save me heart burn when a student distracts me and I fat finger something.

That being said I want to figure how to give the IHS and gentler touch. I get how the switch works so a certain amount of pressure/weight is necessary but I think there must be improvement to be had.

I feel like the Langmuir IHS works fine. If you’re cutting thin stuff just hold it down and monitor your cut. You of course need to verify the cut height you’re achieving based on your numbers, because not everyone need the .02 built into the post processor.

It works. I just think its aggressive. In my classroom I’m going to be repurposing a lot of scrap metal to make parts for students so the scrap pieces can be small (4"x4") or so. I’ve been reading up and might look at some Fusion settings. I prefer a little slower and lighter for most my cnc settings except when working with stainless. I’m going to do some reading up on different ways to hold the materials down. Your preferred method of holding?

I use my hands or some spare pieces of 3/8 I have. Big detailed cuts I watch and when I see material flex I’ll hold it down during IHS and then during the cut.

There is no adjustment to be made to the mechanism either on the machine or in fusion or firecontrol. The pressure it uses is what you get. You just need to see what tolerance there is (backlash) in your table and adjust for it. Adjusting for spring back is crazy in my opinion because spring back will never be uniform across the table.

Messing with 4x4 pieces is too much trouble. Too small to clamp too and messier to cut with water splashing around. I chuck stuff in the recycling bin.

That meme was a classic. I save all the good ones. Thanks
