I am super happy about the upgrade kit. It is a very big deal to me. With my 3D printer hat on I am a big fan of the prusa ecosytem (at least a ten year customer) and one of their big deals is upgrade packages. I am never stranded with an out of date printer.
And now here Langmuir wants more of my money…and I am happy about giving it.
On the plus side, a completely waterproof seal that’s easily available for everyone is 3M’s 5200 sealant.
If you let it cure, it’ll solidify and never leak since it’s meant to be a permanent application. The 4200 stuff is meant to be taken apart for servicing/maintenance (boats).
If I upgrade I’ll probably use that. My current tables sealed fine, but I’d really like to have a single drain maybe slightly tapered into one side just for fun.
Could we make the water table optional then if we upgrade? So we can save some cost and have our own bent up? I really like my current single pan / single drain setup on my XFP.
Hey Jake, quick question regarding the PRO to PRO MAX upgrade kit.
I literally just received my CrossFire PRO delivery this week (the boxes are still sealed in my shop!), and then I saw the announcement for the new 4x4 table. Before I go through the hassle of selling it locally to buy the MAX, I want to verify exactly what the upgrade kit entails.
If I use the new upgrade kit on my unboxed PRO electronics/carriages, will the end result be the exact same machine as a factory PRO MAX? Does the kit include the identical heavy-duty lead screws, the deeper water pan, and the exact same rails?
I just want to confirm that the upgrade kit isn’t a compromised “patch” and that building it this way will give me the true 4x4 factory PRO MAX experience. And does the Max use the same PC as the XR?
I understand the shipping issue with one piece, but that seam design on the original table could definitely use some improvement to lower the risk of water leakage.
If it’s been designed exactly the same, how about at least adding a preformed (over bolts), u-shaped cap that can have a bead of sealer inside then pressed down over the sealed/bolted seam?
We probably won’t be able leave out the water table since the kit packages and price will be standardized but you could always have the table as a back-up just in case.
That’s totally fair, good thinking. Everything in the kit will make it so that your Pro will be exactly the same as a factory Pro MAX. All of the parts we designed for the MAX were designed to assemble onto an existing Pro so that’s been the thought from the beginning.
We we’ll be releasing further details next week on the 13th. so if you wanted to hold on to your Pro until then, then that would also make sense.
Also yes the MAX will use the same computer as the XRs.
Okay, glad to hear I’ll be getting the same product as if I were just to have ordered the Pro Max, hopefully the cost makes sense to upgrade. As in would it be financially smarter to sell the Pro then buy the Pro Max. I think this has already been addressed in here so I’ll wait until the 13th to find out I guess.
Pro Cost + Upgrade to Max Cost = How much more than buying the Pro Max
We payed $3200 for just the table setup before options. People who buy the Pro Max pay $3400. But some comments have been made that it’s $1000 to upgrade Pro to Pro Max.
Anyone’s math not matching? I’ve been very critical of this company telling us all YEARS ago this was supposed to happen. YEARS ago. But yet they just kept sending out new products and more products. Yet those of us that bought what started this company got what? Limit switches? Most of put them on and then tore them off as they are a joke.
I sure hope that they offer first time purchases of a Pro to Pro Max kit at a discount like they did for the limit switch for all of us that bought the Pro.
But I do know. It this kit is $1000, you can PACK SAND. You’re actually telling everyone the difference is $200.
This is just a guess, but I’m assuming part of the cost for the upgrade kit (not saying the full $1k) would be from the added parts needed that would normally come with the Pro Max table itself.
Owning a Pro you have lead screws, a frame, and water table you have to discard that the upgrade replaces.
If you think you can get the frame rails, Y axis rails, y axis lead screws and a water pan for $200, do it yourself.
The Pro Max is starting with those parts, which is apparently only $200 more than the shorter ones that come on the Pro.
Imagine if you make a part and sell it for $100. Then you improve that part and it costs you $5 more to make the improved part. Are you going to sell your original customer that improved part for $5 or $105?
