.NC FIles wont open in firecontrol (SOLVED)

Hello everyone, I am new to cnc cutting so I’m hoping I’m just missing a step or something here. I have downloaded a cut ready file from fire share but when I try to open it in fire control it doesn’t show anything. Am i supposed to save the files to a certain folder or am i missing something? thanks in advance for any help.

Does the file need to be unzipped? I can’t remember I only downloaded a few before deciding to stay away from them. Cut ready file are not always cut ready

I have unzipped them and can see that they are filename.nc files. My problem is whenever I open fire control and go to load program it doesn’t see the nc files it is looking for gcode files. I have couple things that I have designed in Fusion 360 that I would like to cut but i am having the same problem with them.

I think in the open menu down on the lower right you should be able to change the extension in a drop-down menu. I am not close to my machine I can’t confirm right now.

You could sreenshot your screen if you can’t find it.

If its where I’m thinking the only option, I am getting is code. I’ll go plug into the machine shortly and screenshot it.

Maybe some close to their machine will be around. If not you can do a screen shot of your open menu and I will look .

so…you need to know where you store the file from fireshare
then when you are connected to the table open firecontrol and then load program and find the file you are looking for.

the file needs to be in the (*.tap) format for Firecontrol to open them

the file (*.nc) that means the file has not been post processed for firecontrol…it amy say cut ready but it need to go through either sheetcam or Fusion to get post processed.

I thought 360 files saved as a .nc extension.

Yes, Fusion produces a *.NC file for G code.

@TinWhisperer
hey Tin…so Firecontrol can open .nc files?..I thought NC files still needed to be processed to get TAP files…

Yes ,
TAP and NC are both G code formats that Firecontrol can use.

The way I understood the op problem the extension needs to be changed in the open window.

well…

I worked in a machine shop for a old man in his late ninety’s he always said we quit learning when we die.

So i just went out to the shop so i could post a screenshot and for some reason what i was looking for was there this time. Lol. I was able to cut this out real quick while i was out there. Thanks for the fast responses everyone. The community support was a huge reason we went with @langmuirsystems.

so would this be “solved” then?

yes it would be . thanks

Joined the group today and just finished assembly of my new Crossfire and have the same problem with the .nc files. Do I need to change the extension form .nc to .tap. There is no other option on the drop down menu other than g code files???

just set it for whatever you g codes are.

No you don’t need to change the file extension. All of my files have the .NC extension and open fine.

As with previous replies, I think you/Firecontrol are just having trouble locating them. When you get that sorted out, they will open fine.

When you download a file, Win usually shows the saved location if you click on the little folder symbol in the download notification that pops up.
