John,
Check out my Drag Chain posting Installing Drag Chains on your CrossFire Pro
Jim
Do you have a full diagram of the circuit? I am interested in your idea and like the overflow tube.
I am having hard time figuring out what the to pump inlet pipe is doing? Is that the same as the overflow inlet?
@icecactus - Yes, the 3/4" PVC pipe takes in the overflow and dumps it directly into the holding tank. Here is my design at this point.
thanks nice set up
Jim, have you done enough cutting to get a sense as to how often the filter needs cleaning?
@felich One of the setups I had in my head was basically the same as yours, minus the overlfow path and using a Pentair pool valve instead of Jandy.
I really like the idea of the overflow. Simple and easy to be able to walk away from table while its filling. I have a couple concerns though.
My other idea is to simply use air pressure and forget the filter, pump and circulation. Like many have done. I too want to use green cut though and they recommend it, so I am kinda torn. I might go months without using the table. Green cut isn’t exactly cheap, and I want to it to last.
so many good ideas here - I actually blew off work today just to research these modifications!
@icecactus @felich would using stainless (or similar) on the 3/4" overflow alleviate the torch/melting concern? Also, would it be beneficial to make those overflow tubes height adjustable?
My plan is to use a 3/4" black pipe coupler at the end to make a replaceable overflow.
I plan to be able to set the height to be optimum for steel and aluminum.
I like your idea for a diffuser. I will add that to my requirements spec.
Thank you all for your suggestions to make this project work as intended.
Updated design drawings, build pics, and evaluations to come soon.
Right now we are evacuating due to the wildfires in the surrounding forests here in Santa Cruz.
Stay safe man!
I’d consider stainless pipe though - that black pipe rusts quickly and will contribute to the sediment issues in the tank, no?
Put your overflow tight in a corner somewhere. Then you wont be cutting over it as often.
I concur with RockMountain. If you put it near the wall that is opposite the torch side of the gantry, you won’t cut near it at all.
Of course, that means that you can’t cut the hole with the CF!
True, but drilling a fresh hole vs enlarging an existing hole is much easier to do. I always hated trying to go bigger once the centering point disappears with the first hole. LOL
Not if you use the Plasma Cutter to cut it!
That’s how I enlarged my drain hole. Took the center slats out, water was already drained, put a welding blanket under the table, and cut away! Took longer to set up than to cut!
Dont misunderstand. I am in full agreement with using the plasma to cut the hole in the pan. As long as he can reach where he wants to put the overflow. I was just saying that when Drilling, once the center is gone, its much harder to center up with a hole saw to enlarge a hole. Say from 1" to 2", unless using a 2" standard bit, which probably has a 3/4" shank…LOL
Yes, by all means Burn it if you can. That’s why you bought the table in the first place.
for the ones running the touchscreen monitors, are you not using a keyboard and mouse? or just using the touchscreen to navigate?
@nicaDd - I’m just using the touchscreen.
You can dump the kb and mouse.
Hey guys, i gave up on my dream of doing this after some tough life events. I have the 3-D printed pieces in black i am trying to get rid of for cheap if anyone is interested. I also have the torch mount and cpc cable for hypertherm too if anyone is interested.
I use a wireless keyboard so I can stand right at the table and jog it around while eyeballing it. I have a 16 foot usb cable running to my lap top and welding blankets around my table, so it makes it a little easier.
