MR1 ER20 collet nut issue(Solved)

They have the correct collet nuts in stock.
Just got 5 of them. Email support and they will ship them.

They are in the mail. Hope you put them to good use…

Thank you brother. I will definitely use them

Hey John just an FYI the collets you sent me are 25mm not 24. All the ER20 collets I have are 24 including the MR1. Pretty odd because the MR1 collet is marked ER20-A. These will definitely screw up the threads on the spindle.
Did you buy these from Langmuir??

Langmuir!!! What is the correct thread on an ER “A” nut?? You need to specify this as the nuts are marked the same with 2 different threads!!

The ones I sent you are correct ER20a 25mm x 1.5mm .
You said you were going to use the on your router table.
Yes the Langmuir spindle is 24mm x 1.5.
They won’t fit the MR 1. Thats why I was giving them away.

They had them made special for them due to a screw up on the spindle fabrication drawing. They got all their spindles at 24mm instead of 25mm. Please don’t use them on your MR. If they are not going to be used for another machine that is a ER20 spindle. Throw them out.

Now the ER20 compact nut is 24mm X 1.0mm. But they are the nuts that have groves in them instead of the Hex nut style that are 25mm.

No worries but my router is the exact same as the MR1 and its 15yrs old so I thought the 24mm was standard and you accidently got a larger spindle shaft. . The picture you posted had the ER20 A marked on it and so does my MR 1. Why would a manufacture mark a nut the same with 2 different threads? So they are now going to have 2 different nuts with the same stamp on them??

Read this it will explain. You must get MR1 collet nuts from langmuir. They had them made up to fit the off spec spindles.

““ER20 collet nuts- one comes with M24x1.0"”
I totally get that but you can not stamp 2 completely different nuts with the same stamp. ER20"A” should be a 24mm thread and “B” should be a 25mm thread. If someone does not read this thread how will they know what they are getting?
Have you seen the new nuts?? If I need a new collet for my spindle what do I order the ER20A or the ER20A??

An ER20A nut is 25mm x 1.5 with the hex.
A ER20 compact is 24mm X 1.0. This one has groves in it istead of the hex.
The original Langmuir nuts were marked ER20 but were custom made to fit the langmuir spindles that are 24mm X 1.5 mm not 1.0mm like the compact.
I got 5 new nuts from Langmuir that are correct for the MR1.

The ones I have are stamped the same with 2 completely different threads. Thats a bad mistake in the manufacturing world and kinda dangerous.

I get it. But the 24mm one fits your MR1.
The ones I sent you are standard 25mm and marked correctly. If your router uses the compact version of a ER20 it is 1.0mm
Thread pitch and they won’t fit. If it uses the hex style they should fit.

Langmuirs 24mm x 1.5 on the left.
Standard 25mm x 1.5 on the right.

Understand. My MR1 and all my routers have the 24mm 1.5 thread which originally I thought was “A”.
I appreciate the collet nuts but now I have 6 ER20 25mm x 1.5 thread NOT 24mm x 1.5 thread nuts so if anyone needs some you can have these as well HAHAHA. NOTE THAT ALL NUTS FROM LANGMUIR ARE MARKED THE SAME WITH 2 DIFFERENT THREADS SO MEASURE THEM!!!

John sorry to beat this horse but could you look at the original collet that came with your machine?? I just noticed this collet is machined WAY off.
What is the reason for this?

That’s the way they are supposed to be.
What looks like an offset is designed into the nut.

That’s how ER collets work, the collet snaps in through the eccentric groove and then is semi-captured in the nut.

I’m amazed that you have a router with 24x1.5 threads, I searched far and wide and could not find ER20 collet nuts in that size.

Yes, it is really confusing that Langmuir marked the nuts as ER20A instead of something like ER20-MR1.

Do I have this right……

EVERY MR-1 Spindle ever shipped, and to be shipped in the future requires a custom 24mmx1.5 ER-20 Collet Nut available only from Langmuir?

Joel……

As of right now. Yes. I would think that in the future spindles this would be corrected. Now, how many they have on hand ? I have no idea.
I bought 5 for stock. Its not a big deal for me. I do understand.
