MR-1 - filling baseplate hardware holes w/epoxy

Is it OK to fill in the hardware recessed holes in the baseplate that are for the concrete bolts? There’s no way they are getting undone (set in concrete now) so I’m wondering why people have not filled them with JB epoxy prior to facing the baseplate off. I’d like to keep coolant and chips from filling them up.

Thanks!

You can still use them.

Do you mean I can take out the occasional allen head bolt that holds the baseplate to the concrete anchors and use them for holding fixtures - or did you mean something else?

No, you can’t remove them. I guess you could do it if you wanted to. It has no effect. I have two vises mounted inside. Occasionaly, I remove one vise and bolt in a low profile 3-jaw chuck. I have never had a problem with chip build-up.

I filled in holes for the concrete anchors with cheap hot glue on my baseplate. The coolant doesn’t mess it up and it makes it much easier to clean coolant and chips off. I can also easily remove the hot glue if for some reason I needed to get at those bolts. I’ve had that in place for the better part of a year and it is still holding up nicely.

Great idea. Wax would also work nicely, and you could use a razor blade to make sure it’s flush or below the work surface.

Thanks - the hot glue is a good solution. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
