Moving a 4x8 plate

How do you move a 4x8 3/8” plate.

I found some “panel dollies” that look like the may be decent to get the plate into the shop. I’m thinking a come along to an over head hook bolted through a beam above.

My biggest hurdle will be getting the plate tipped on edge and into the panel dolly…… while it’s in the parking lot….

I think you might have several hurdles: A quick calculation has a 3/8" x 4 x 8 sheet weighing about 500 pounds!

But the dolly does have merit for lighter sheets.

This one is rated at 500lbs, other similar styles are rated at 1000lbs.

3/8” may be a bit heavy but I want to cut a fixture table.

It’s funny, the scale of things at work makes me lose perspective. 3/8” is a pretty standard thickness there, and there really isn’t any stock under 1/4”. But there are forklifts and cranes everywhere.

3/8” plate in the Makerspace I am a member of suddenly looks heavy.

If I can find an engine hoist I’ll use a plate clamp and tip it up….

It’s insane that the price I was quoted from a local shop to cut this table out would cover buying an engine hoist….

You would need to change the chain setup.
