Got my MR-1 cutting yesterday and when i turned it on this morning none of my machines will connect to it i tried two separate PCs and 2 separate USB cables (with and without usb hub) and both show “No Connections” in cut control. On the laptop (which worked previously) i get a message that says “USB device malfunctioned” I removed all the connectors from the back of the MR-1 to see if maybe something was shorted and still no go. I hear the fans on it turn on when i flip the switch.
Not sure if it is related or not but i tried to do the “Update Machine Firmware” last week and it kept hanging and never responding but the machine has worked since.
Check the board inside to see if it has 36 VDC. If it does, call or email Langmuir for a new board. They do fail on occasion. The board is marked on the left side, and the pin says 36vdc.
Dumb question: is the emergency stop pushed in?
yep it read 36 sent an email to support thanks for the help i was hoping that it would be something stupid this means the mill will be down for another week probably.
still waiting on a reply from them I hate waiting!!! What do you think the odds are that they would overnight the part? I am assuming if the controller is the issue that i will need to set all the soft stops and tool setter?

Langmuir Systems LLC, good luck
It’s hard to get through on the phone.
Things are changing for the better, in my opinion.
Tech support is on top of things. They have competent techs now but are still very busy.
As you know, some of these problems require hours or days to work themselves out.
Jake was out for a short while so that put them behind a little too. If its highly technical (like your issue) and its also an MR-1 issue, I think he is one of the main guys. That explains the delay. I dont believe they overnight anything, though.
They should just employ you seems like you answer a lot of the questions around here pretty damn quick. I know they ship from Texas not somehow to get to Las Vegas from where they are seems to take a week plus I can’t wait that long.
Need more information, Roger. Screenshots.
Why are we trying to update the firmware? I have been using 24.1 since its launch and have never been poked to update the firmware.
If your machine is working there is no need to update its firmware.
The fan on one of the stepper drivers was rattling, so I replaced it with a fan that draws more current… I didn’t think it’d matter, but it seems to be drawing too much power and that’s interfering with power delivery to the board.
The windows error I was getting apparently indicates that the usb device is asking for more power than the host can deliver.
Regarding upgrading firmware… I guess I assumed that, like most other computer-based devices nowadays, it is recommended to keep both the client software and the device firmware up to date. Even my car starts reminding me when there’s a firmware update available!
Get yourself one of these for your USB.CNC USB Isolator 1Kv -(Bullet Proof USB) UC-100 USB,USB Ground Loop Eliminator | eBay
This will supply the CNC board with the 5v it requires without stressing out the computer USB.
Besides ground loop protection it is self powered and just takes signal from computer and send the correct 5 v signal to control box. Works great.
Haha, the main reason Im here is that I just got my machine this year and I also picked up a Crossfire Pro. Like most of the guys here, I have spent plenty of time on manual machines, but this is a new frontier to me (to a degree) and Im trying to soak up everything I can. There is a ton to learn here.
Ive been on a few forums for other hobbies or vocations where the so-called subject matter experts are the scum of the earth, so I just try to help out if I feel like I can, because we have all been there. I have read most of the threads in the MR-1 forum and Im impressed at how helpful these folks are, even when they dont agree with you.
My machine just abruptly stopped working in the middle of the “send to front” move. I see that you guys were reading 36VDC, but I’m getting 41VDC. I’m assuming that any voltage on that pin is a bad thing?
i don’t know anything about which pins should have witch voltage but stopping mid job that sounds like a problem i have seen where the usb cable needed replaced and once i replaced it i haven’t seen that issue again (same thing with usb hub or extender)
