I’m losing penetration on some of my cuts. I’m pasting a photo of one of my cuts from last night and I can’t figure out what would cause this. You can see that it did the rest of the cut perfectly.
Using:
Crossfire pro with THC
Everlast Powerplasma 62I with CNC torch
Also having some issues where my torch doesn’t fire all the time. But I’ve read some of the forum threads of similar issues and have some suggestions from that thread I’m going to try tonight to solve that. Issues include:
Torch will lose arc halfway through a cut and then kick on halfway through the next cut
“sometimes” getting a voltage reading on THC
couldn’t get an arc at all until I turned the air pressure up to 80psi. Then I read a comment from Bigdaddy that Everlast won’t operate above 80psi. So I don’t know on that one
I’ve gotten through several cuts though pretty well. I thought I was in the clear with a good running machine until last night.
Yeah. I’m still dialing in the cutting speed I need. My first cuts were 40ipm lol. I destroyed the bottle opener I was making. I probably need to bring it to 100-120ipm. But I have bigger problems to get through.
There could be some sticking in the torch. Check to see that the electrode will float up when pressed on it. @Bigdaddy2166 has Everlast so he knows that machine.
BigDaddy also has a video showing checking this movement of the electrode. (Sorry, I could not find it.) Since I tagged him to this post, he will show up at some point.
I saw that little clip. That is in my to do checklist when I get home.
I also am going to do the “Ohm test”
and make sure the work clamp and torch cable aren’t touching my USB cable.
I’d still venture with moisture/wrecked consumables before thinking there’s a mechanical issue with the torch.
These pictures and issues come up nearly daily in the FB group only for the author to post an electrode with tons of swirl and a nozzle that’s cratered badly.
Edit: Just realized there was a losing arc portion. Are you wired via raw? Divided can do funky things.
Yeah. I’m wired directly to the lugs in the cutter.
Ground is on the work piece now. My most successful cuts were while the ground was just on the frame of the table. I thought about that last night when i started having issues, so I moved it to the work piece. It didn’t help.
Just ran 3 air tests. Air pressure starts at 75 for all tests
Test 1 drops to 55, rebounds to 67, 2 sec successful arc
Test 2 drops and stays at 67, 4 sec successful arc
Test 3 same as Test 2
Raise the pressure to 80 and the test drops it to 67 with a rebound to 71
All tests result in an E05 error on my plasma which means the arc was trying to light for too long or something
The electrode does rebound in the torch head
Your machine should only lose 3 to 4 psi of air pressure while running. Here are some instructions for checking the air solenoid inside the plasma cutter. Many people have experienced issues with this solenoid when debris or thread tape gets lodged inside. Everlast Solenoid Service Guide.pdf (513.9 KB)
I keep my machine set at 75 psi, which drops by three psi while cutting. Anytime you put it over 82 psi, it will alarm out at high pressure.
SUCCESS! I think… After I cleaned the solenoid (which i was sure i would eff up), I put the pressure at 76 and it went to 69. Put it at 78, and it went to 71. I fired the torch and did not get the E05 error. The arc stayed for the duration of the test.
This feels weird to say but, Thank you @Bigdaddy2166
